Vehicle Description
When you want a luxury car thats also a sporty car, you want a
Mercury Cougar was the sales slogan for 1973. This was the last
year that the Cougar was a member of the pony car class as it was
produced as a mid-sized luxury car beginning in 1974. As part of
the second-generation Cougar, the 1973 model was built from 1971
through 1973. The Mercury model line slated above the economical
Ford and below the Lincoln model. The design was mostly a
continuation from the 1972 year and had slight changes to the
taillights and grille. Standard items were high-back bucket seats,
power front disc brakes, sequential turn signals, a console with an
ashtray, wheel well moldings, and a spoke steering wheel with color
keys. Only 1,284 convertible models were built for the 1973 year,
thus making this Cougar a rare and highly collectible car. There
are many enthusiasts who love these cars and have been searching
for one for a long time. This 73 XR7 has been owned by current
owner since 1989. The car has been stored inside a garage since
then. It has never been wrecked and is a great candidate for
restoration. Less than 100,000 miles have been driven over the
years. This car has all options for the 1973 year. The exterior is
Maroon. The car was originally white and was repainted sometime in
the 1980's. Body is solid with no signs of filler. The chrome
bumpers and emblems are still in good shape. The wheel wells do
have some rust around the top and behind the tire. The trunk floor
pan has some rust, but the floor pans are solid with no rust. The
body does not sag at all. The top is white, and the hydraulics are
in good working condition. Interior is the tan bucket seat console
interior. The dash pad is cracked and faded but the instrument
panel looks good. The engine is the 351 Cleveland cubic inch and is
paired with an automatic transmission. The power steering and power
brakes are still in good working condition. Two of the four power
windows are working. This car starts and runs well, and the dual
exhaust sounds good. This is a great candidate for a future show
car. It is located in Ohio and is available for viewing by
appointment only.
