This Packard was the subject of a “no expense spared” (over $200,000 in documented receipts) highly detailed nut and bolt restoration completed about a decade ago. Everything was finished to “Concours” standards resulting in a National First Prize at the coveted Packard Meet in Williamsburg Virginia. The restoration was carried out by Blackhorse Garage in Bridgeport CT, with the mechanical expertise of Bryon York, a Packard expert in Ridgefield, CT. The goal was not only to have a stunning show car, but a car that was “dialed in” absolutely perfectly for pleasurable driving and reliable touring.
The body is finished in a striking, black, gray and silver combination with red pinstriping lining the belt line and dual red pinstriping hand painted on the elegant Packard Accessory steel disc wheels. The quality of the paintwork is outstanding, and remains in exquisite condition. All the bright work/chrome plating remains virtually perfect and was exquisitely restored by D&D Brightwork of Ohio - an award winning shop and regular providers to the finest Pebble Beach Concours D’elegance show cars.
The car features a comprehensive array of period accessories including Depress Beam Headlights, dual fixed Tripplelight fog lamps, and a single Pilot Ray spotlight, which rotates as the front wheels turn. There’s also a mesh radiator stone guard, Goddess of Speed Mascot, wind wings, a Packard badged accessory Trunk, and a rear mounted spare wrapped in a Packard badged cloth cover.
The interior treatment is equally impressive. Pin Stripe Packard-correct wool fabric covers the seats, with grey wool carpets, door panels and headlining. Rear seat passengers enjoy a luxurious, fully dressed cabin with footrests, robe rail, bud vases, rear window blind, and braided grab handles. Finely finished wood grain surrounds the windows and vanity sets which include cigar lighters tethered by retractable cords. Up front, the driver faces beautiful original instruments set into a wood grain finish, along with restored switches and controls.
Packard’s in-line eight presents in excellent order, finished in correct green and silver paint, with period appropriate plumbing and fittings. A lovely brass Detroit lubricator carburetor feeds the engine, with black porcelain manifolds in excellent condition.
The 733 Club Sedan was a new design provided to Packard by Raymond Dietrich. It is a richly elegant design, very desirable among collectors and a greatly desired tour and driving car due to its comfort and ease of handling. This example is no doubt one of the very finest in existence and must be seen and driven to be fully appreciated.
