The Dodge M37 3/4-ton 4x4 truck was Dodge's follow-up to their
successful WC Series from World War II. Introduced in 1951, it was
used extensively by the United States armed forces during the
Korean war. A conventional pickup truck style bed replaced the
platform on the World War II vehicle, simplifying production and
increasing it's civilian use. The powerplant is
Chrysler's Straight-6 cylinder engine derived from a 1930s era
passenger vehicle engine that was widely produced. This was in line
with a long-standing military procurement strategy that attempted
to use commercially produced vehicle variants in military
service.
The M37 presented at auction has been restored and is reported (not
verified) to have been used in many movie productions. The seller
reports the car to run and drive just like it did in 1953! Somewhat
rough riding, could potentially go anywhere, perfect for outdoor
use! The bikes in the bed are not included in the sale of the
M37.
