Details
This 1986 Ford Mustang GT is powered by a 5.0L V8 engine that sends its power to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. This pony car was repainted in 2008 to black and wears matching black leather upholstery. The car is equipped with a T-top removable panel roof as well as power steering, a tilt steering wheel, a hatchback rear lid, MacPherson strut suspension with an anti-sway bar, front disc brakes, and A/C. The current owner installed a modern stereo and five-lug custom wheels. The owner states that the motor and transmission are original to the vehicle, and the five-digit odometer shows 85,119 miles, but the true mileage is not known. The car is located in Georgia.
The third-party inspection and photos document a clean and cared-for car. The fresh paint shows well, with only light scratches and a minor dent in the rear bumper. Both are pictured in the photo library. The interior is in a similar condition, and the photos display clean blemish-free seats and matching Mustang mats with a new black carpet. A clean Carfax report is available with the car. Included in the sale are two sets of keys as well as service records from the current owner.
This Mustang GT is being sold through a CLASSIC.COM Pro and is located in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
About the model
The 1982 to 1986 Ford Mustang GT was a variant of the "Quad-Headlight" Third Generation Mustang and featured unique styling and performance as an upgrade on the standard Fox platform. Ford reintroduced the GT name from the First Generation Mustang GT, replacing the previous Fox Platform Cobra. The Mustang GT's original MSRP was just under $10,000 for the coupe, with the convertible costing just over $13k. Exterior features included a non-functional hood scoop and a front bumper with fog lights that had been featured on the Cobra. The Mustang GT is most commonly associated with the 5.0L V8 (302 cid). However, a turbocharged four-cylinder was briefly marketed along with a 4.2L V8 (255 cid). The 5.0L V8 was the most powerful engine starting at 140hp, up to 210 hp depending on the production year. A TRX-specification handling package played on the Mustang's sporty theme, with the added benefit of disc brakes at the front. A five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential sent power to the rear wheels. An automatic option was introduced in 1984. The Third Generation Mustang was facelifted in 1987, which saw the updated "Aero" Mustang GT replace the "Quad-Headlight" GT.
