The Volkswagen Brasília was a family of compact cars that was introduced for the 1974 model year. The rear-engined Brasília was sold in a three or five-door hatchback body style and was built using the 1600cc flat-four engine from the Beetle and the chassis of the Karmann Ghia. The Brasília was largely sold in South America, but knockdown kit versions were sold in Nigeria under the name Igala. Production of the Volkswagen Brasília lasted until 1982 when it was effectively replaced by the Volkswagen Gol.
