Vehicle Description
1968 Chevrolet C10 Panel Delivery
The Sedan Delivery, (also sometimes referred to as a Panel
Delivery), for the uninitiated, is a relatively obscure body style
of a van built on a car chassis. Typically, these take the form of
a station wagon body, but with steel panels where the rear windows
would be. Historically, sedan deliveries had two doors, but modern
versions typically have four. In the beginning, back when it was
enough just to have four wheels and an engine, all light duty
trucks were essentially sedan deliveries. A Model T with a car body
was a car; one with a truck body was a truck. Even up until the
1940's, light duty trucks were basically beefed-up versions of
their donor car chassis, (Model TT, AA, and BB, continuing the Ford
analogy).
Note: The VIN on this vehicle denotes the model year as being 1969
and the year listed on the title is 1968. This could be due to a
typographical error at the DMV. However, the title matches the VIN
plate on the vehicle.*
You never know what's going to come through the door next has
become our mantra here at the Classic Auto Mall. So, when this 1968
Panel Delivery with some modernized hot rod touches added came
through the door, we were all smiles. Some snappy 17-inch blingy 6
spoke wheels on all 4 corners, and a lack of a lot of chrome bling
trimmings. It's a bit scary to think this car will deliver, but it
does in many ways!
Exterior
Painted in an eye-catching and soul soothing tutone with shades of
charcoal gray and burgundy metallic, nobody will think it's still
working for a living. A ton of small styling cues have been
incorporated into this project, the two-tone paint shines up
well, but does have a few non-noteworthyinclusions and faults. The
cab roof as well as sides, rear door uppers, cowl induction hood
and fender tops are drenched in charcoal down to the upper beltline
and then the soothing burgundy metallic takes over giving a nice
contrast to the gray. All glass and surrounding gaskets are like
new, and on cargo area sides are just begging for "Your Business
Name Here". Gaps are nicely minded throughout, and the grille up
front is looking spiffy. The bumpers are hanging in there as well
and looking in good condition with absolutely no rust. Just behind
the cab is the long slab sided cargo area and bringing up the back
are the twin bar doors with more crystal clear glass. A small C H E
V R O L E T badge dresses up the rear and on each corner are
17-inch Vision Legend Series wheels with highly polished lips and 6
spoke charcoal centers wrapped in Federal rubber from 2017.
Interior
When you climb inside, you'll find yourself swept away with the
perfect homologationof old and new. A pair of power actuated bucket
seats, wrapped in ebony leather, flank the center hump and float in
a sea of low pile black carpet. The new door panels are in the
original style withribbed black vinyl inserts surrounded by smooth
charcoal steel and shiny brightly with chrome handles and cranks
and black armrests. The dash is a mixture of old and new, with
original layout for the updated digital gauges in front of the
driver. Dash central holds the factory chrome heater slides and an
aftermarket AM/FM stereo, while a like new padded topper adds a
nice touch. An original steering column and multi-spoke rally style
steering wheel complete the front passenger area perfectly. The
cargo area is finished on the sides with slightlywrinkled black
vinyl, while the cargo floor is done with plush black carpeting.
Meanwhile, a slightly sagged headliner hangs above.
Drivetrain
The consignor stated 6.0 liter LQ4 V8 power plant already has
plenty of chutzpah, it's augmented with a fresh air intake, and is
fed by EFI. It's backed by a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission
and 12 bolt rear axle so it was clearly designed to be driven.
Undercarriage
All 1968 Chevrolet here, including front coil sprung and rear 3
link and coil spring suspension, power front discs and power rear
drums for the braking, and it handles better than you'd expect.
Nothing but a light coating of patina and black paint make up the
frame and flooring with only a slight sprinkling of surface rust on
the usual suspects. The flooring and rockers show signs of
haphazard spray foam repair from invasive rust, as do some of the
body hangers. Headers feed to dual exhaust snaking its way rearward
and passing through a pair of Turbo style mufflers.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and a surprising amount of power which seems to go
on and on with this engine. It was definitely not expected, and
handling and bias free braking was second to none. A smooth
cruiser, head turner, and all functioning save for the reverse
lights not illuminating and a resonating vibration sound through
the steel from the electric fuel pump.
All buttoned up and modified both inside and out. A perfect
throwback with some updates and upgrades along with the timeless
look of these "Action Look" trucks. No phone booth necessary to
turn this everyday delivery into a Superman...Look up in the
sky!!!..actually on the test track at Classic Auto Mall...
