280SL ROADSTER BEAUTIFULLY RESTORED
LOCAL CALIFORNIA CAR
LOOKS AND DRIVES LIKE NEW!
This beautiful 280SL at Sports Car Company was in a private
collection in La Jolla, CA.
This 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is a European-market example finished
in red over cream leather and powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six
paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes
a removable hardtop, a brown soft top, 14-inch steel wheels with
covers, power steering, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, a
heater, and an Alpine CD stereo. The car was reportedly refurbished
under prior ownership and was acquired by the current owner in
2013. The battery, spark plugs, and ignition points were replaced
in preparation for the sale. This W113 is now offered with the
manufacturer's literature, the removed factory radio, and a clean
California title.
The car is finished in red and was repainted under prior ownership,
at which time the brown soft top was replaced, the hardtop was
refurbished, and the bumpers and trim were re-chromed. Exterior
equipment includes dual side mirrors and twin polished exhaust
outlets. Side marker lights were added under prior ownership.
14 inch steel wheels wear chrome covers with body-color accents and
are mounted with 185-series Phoenix whitewall tires. A spare is
located in the trunk. The car is equipped with power steering and
four-wheel disc brakes.
The cabin has been reupholstered in cream leather, and a
replacement dash pad and carpets have also been installed. The
center console wood trim was refurbished, and appointments included
a heater, an analog clock, and an Alpine CD stereo. The removed
factory radio is included in the sale.
Instrumentation includes a 220-km/h speedometer, a tachometer, and
gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The
five-digit odometer shows 7k kilometers (~4,500 miles), and the
total mileage is unknown.
The 2.8-liter M130 inline-six is equipped with Bosch mechanical
fuel injection and a polished valve cover. The battery, spark
plugs, and ignition points were replaced in preparation for the
sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic
transmission. Additional underside photos are provided in the
gallery below.
