Vehicle Description
2008 BMW 328i Convertible
The origin of the logo as a portrayal of the movement of an
aircraft propeller, the BMW logo with the white blades seeming to
cut through a blue sky, is a myth which sprang from a 1929 BMW
advertisement depicting the BMW emblem overlaid on a rotating
propeller, with the quarters defined by strobe-light effect, a
promotion of an aircraft engine then being built by BMW under
license from Pratt & Whitney. "For a long time, BMW made little
effort to correct the myth that the BMW badge is a propeller"
(quote by Fred Jakobs, Archive Director, BMW Group Classic). It is
well established that this propellor portrayal was first used in a
BMW advertisement in 1929 - twelve years after the logo was created
- so this is not the true origin of the logo. In actuality, it
depicts the clops of the Bavarian flag.
For consignment a 2008 non-M version 6-speed manual, (rarely seen
in the US), of the 328i, and it's a retractable hardtop
convertible! All well preserved and maintained over the years and
102,383 pampered miles...WOW! The car presents nearly like new and
is very clean.
Exterior
The sleek aero sculpted steel exterior is bathed in Atlantic Blue
Metallic which is all looking nice. Save for a few scratches here
and there it is looking in excellent condition. At first glace this
car appears to be a coupe, but with the press of a button the
electro-hydraulic ballet of mechanicals starts and that hardtop
neatly tucks away into the rear of the car, much like the Fords of
the late 50's and early 60's. Also a nice design feature of this
car is thefull on aerodynamic styling that graces every panel,
bodyline and contour. When the top is in the down position, a black
tonneau covering gives the car a virtual seamless look. Body
matching neoprene bumpers house some tail lighting in the rear, and
up front the classic BMW dual kidney bean front grille, along with
some sculpted headlights are in. 19-inch alloy wheels are wrapped
in 245/45ZR17 General G-Max rubber from the 38th week of 2020, and
we note heavy curb rash on all 4 of the wheel faces.
Interior
Calming charcoal black leather covers the front buckets and rear
bench which is a 2 plus 2 setup. These seats are all very clean and
in excellent condition. Plenty of power conveniences abound inside
with power adjustable seats, windows, locks and mirrors. Fitted
into the rounded black center console is the 6-speed shifter and
the top rocker switch. There is a mouse wheel to control the wide
screen neatly tucked into the dash with navigation, backup camera
and various radio, sound, and accessibility functions and all of
this jewelry is surrounded by a sultry burl. This can be worked
with voice activation as well. The instruments are analog and
digital panels and are within eye level of the driver behind the
steering wheel. Clean black carpeting is on the floors and all is
very nicely preserved.
Drivetrain
German engineers just love plastic covering panels, and the engine
has many to look at. Along with the power plant, which is a 3.0
liter inline 6 cylinder, and like the rest of this car is
wonderfully clean, and the consignor has some records of
maintenance performed on this mill. EFI and a 6-speed manual
transmission is within these confines too and driving the rear
tires is a 3.15 geared rear axle.
Undercarriage
Underneath has a peppering of lightly corroded aluminum parts,
stainless steel exhaust, and solid black coated floor pans.
Amazingly only slight road dirt, and the suspension, (4 wheel
independent), is very clean for the cast parts that make it up.
Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners all pristine.
Drive-Ability
A fun driver with lots of power, rail-like handling, bias free
panic stopping, and all working just great for all the functions.
Having the ability to run this car through the gears adds a nice
kick and putting the top down will also put a smile on your
face...let the sun shine in!!
A very well kept and pampered, Autobahncruising toy in this 328i
convertible from 2008. Nice paint, a clean and inviting interior
and plenty of power conveniences along with the wide screen
display. A glimpse of luxury/sport, and well within affordable
range so the everyday driver can now be within reach of all price
wise.
