Vehicle Description
1991 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 2wd
The Chevrolet Suburban is a series of automobiles built by the
Chevrolet division of General Motors. In production since the 1935
model year, the model line is currently in its twelfth generation;
it is the longest-used automobile nameplate in the world. Beginning
life as one of the first metal-bodied station wagons, the Suburban
is the progenitor of modern full-size SUVs, combining a station
wagon body with the chassis and powertrain of a pickup truck.
Alongside its Advance Design, Task Force and C/Kpredecessors, the
Silverado pickup trucks share chassis and mechanical commonality
with the Suburban. Traditionally one of the most profitable
vehicles sold by General Motors, the Suburban has been marketed by
both Chevrolet and GMC for nearly its entire history; GMC has used
several different nameplates for the model line, marketing the
Suburban as the GMC Yukon XL since 2000. Cadillac also rebrands the
Suburban as the Cadillac Escalade ESV. During the 1990s, the Holden
brand marketed right-hand drive versions of the model line.
Offered for consignment and taking up a literal 2 tons of space,
this very clean 1991 Bowtie Suburban in 2500 trim, the ultimate
suburban shuttler to soccer games, baseball, hockey etc. It is not
a shabby grocery getter either. Anyone can hop into the ubiquitous
SUV these days, but a classic Suburban in Silverado trim?
Faithfully maintained by our consignor during his ownership tenure
and ready to perform for you...now you are arriving in style!
Exterior
What has 4 headlights, 4 doors, 4-wheel drive and 3 rows of seats?
Well our consignment that's what! Bathed in two tone Charcoal
Metallic with Black lower side panels, shiny trimmings, tinted
windows, black glass surrounds and a long back for that 3rd tow and
room for all the goods, you could start your own shuttle business
back and forth to the airport. Some wide black and aluminum
trimming runs the length of the sides within the black and
delineating the black from the charcoal is a wide red pinstripe and
it wraps around the entire truck. 4 doors for the passengers and
driver, but also a swing down gate on the back for that cargo area
and full access. The bumpers are shiny and no rust is seen in the
very nicely applied finish. A few inclusions are noted throughout
and on the passenger's side of the hood is a raised and cracked
area of bodywork that should be tended to before it gets worse.
16-inch Weld Racing badged deep dish wheels are on all 4 corners
and are wrapped in deeply treaded LT276/75R16 Michelin radials.
Lest we forget to mention the body matching charcoal visor hanging
off of the front of the roof. This compliments and gives a big rig
feel to this already big rig.
Interior
Pile 'em in with 3 benches to choose from, all wrapped in some tuck
and roll broadcloth and gray cloth sides, and all looking good. An
80/20 second row allows easy access to the rear 3rd row bench which
sports big armrests and ashtrays, (smoke 'em if ya got 'em!). Not
to be forgotten are the pillow-top like captain's chair style
buckets up front for the driver and passenger with a large gray
plastic console in between. Gray carpeting floods the floors, and
in front the original dash setup and steering wheel in 50 shades of
gray and wood applique are seen. A big and tight light gray
headliner is noted as is all nicely preserved door panels with
their tinted glass. Room for 8 plus your cargo!
Drivetrain
An unrestored engine and bay sits under the hood. A big rig such as
this big SUV marches right along with that big big big mantra and
its 454ci's for the V8 fed by EFI, (TBI Injection), and backed up
by a 4-speed 700 R4 automatic. A 14-bolt rear is on the back and
can handle whatever you decide to throw at it.
Undercarriage
Some heavy surface rust on a few suspects but structurally solid
including the rocker areas, as well as the black painted frame and
gray flooring. Leaf spring suspension with power drum brakes are in
the back and up front we see power disc brakes bolted to the
independent coil spring suspension. A single exhaust system handles
the exhale effectively and efficiently with the help of a stock
style muffler.
Drive-Ability
Turn the key and she's off to the test track. I wasn't about to pry
8 of us from our Classic Auto Mall desks, so my partner in crime
and all around good guy was made to sit in "the wayyyyy back" as I
wasn't sure if his lunch would provide me with a posterior
symphony. Things were coming up all aces on the test track and it
handled it swimmingly. Don't tell the President though, it could be
construed as goofing off, and it probably would be true. But I
digress, and it ran great, handled well, and we were comfortable
for the most part. The AC blows cold but not icy cold and with the
rear hatch we noticed that sometimes you need to close it a little
harder than you would think you needed to.
No rust, a monster big block under the hood, heavy duty suspension,
and well taken care of by a loving consignor. This could definitely
be the right kind of hauler for the kids and all their stuff, all
from 1991 in luxurious 2 tone trim, and plenty of room to boot.
