This is when they made cars! Only 682 V-12s were made total in
1936. This one's official model is a Packard Series 1407 Formal
Sedan. It is considered a genuine classic by the Classic Car Club
of America. It has been beautifully restored and given some
upgrades that make it a better touring car. It has been converted
to a 12 volt electrical system and power steering was added. The
car was driven here by it's 83 year old owner!
EXTERIOR: It's a California car, the body is exceptionally clean.
It is straight everywhere, there is no rust or damage. The doors
shut solid. The owner had it professionally repainted. The dark
blue finish is polished like glass. There are only minor
imperfections if you go looking for them. It has dual sidemount
spares with the optional metal covers. Most of the chrome was done
at the time of the paint job. The padded roof is in excellent
shape. The rubber running boards were replaced. The wire wheels and
white wall tires look great. Other features include the trip lights
in front and a luggage rack in back.
INTERIOR: It has a very luxurious interior! All of the upholstery
was redone just a few years ago. It has a roll up divider window
and in back there is one jump seat and one compartment door. The
carpets were replaced and has foot rests in the back. The wood trim
is in very good shape. The instrument panel and gauges look like
they have been restored like new. It has a factory radio.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The V-12 was 473 cubic inches and produced 175
hp. I was so impressed on how smooth it idles, you barely hear it
run. I did find a date code on the engine: late 1935 which
indicates it is correct. All the components on the motor look clean
and proper. It does have a modern power steering added along with
an electric fan to make it more driver friendly.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It has a 7th matching wire wheel and white wall
tire for a spare. It also has a jack and some miscellaneous extras
to go with the car.
UNDERSIDE: Underneath this car looks very clean and orderly. It's a
California car so it has solid and smooth metal. It has factory
power vacuum assisted brakes. A swaybar was added in back.
SERVICE: We inspected the car and only needed to replace a couple
bulbs.
This is one of the most esteemed cars of the classic car era. It's
very impressive because of it's sheer size and the luxury it
provides. It is like rolling artwork. You can walk admire a Mustang
or Camaro by walking around it pretty quickly. You need to stop and
appreciate all the beauty this car has to offer, like savoring fine
food. It's more than just a sculpture, this is a very drivable car.
What a feeling you will have behind the wheel of this one! The
Classic Car Club does have events and tours you can participate
in.
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for
virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant
amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my
professional impression of the vehicle.
Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure
your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do
a walk around video that explains the car's condition in
detail.
**These cars are displayed in a museum. If interested in a
particular car make an appointment with a salesman to see that car.
Without an appointment there is an admission fee to enter the
showroom. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded and you
will be given a 1 year membership.
