Vehicle Description
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser
FJ40. Finished in Sky Blue over a black interior, this FJ40 is a
mostly-stock example that has been fitted with a 3FE fuel-injected
engine from an FJ62 Land Cruiser (the 3FE was an evolution of the
1F and 2F engines installed in the FJ40, but with appreciably
better driveability and performance). Paint and body present to a
nice standard with only a few minor flaws. Solid floors and rockers
with no known rust. As a late-production FJ40, it was equipped from
the factory with ambulance doors on the back, a four-speed manual
transmission and power brakes (with front disk).
Interior presents nicely with front bucket seats and rear folding
jump seats in excellent condition. A roll cage provides for
three-point belts at the front (lap belts are installed for the
rear seat occupants). Original steering wheel, door panels and
headliner are likewise in good condition. All gauges are clear and
working. The vintage 8-track in the dash is inop. This is a
US-market truck with a heater.
Under the hood is a 4.0 liter fuel-injected inline six from an
FJ62. Although it's more or less the same size and weight as the
original 2F engine, it makes 20 more horsepower (and since it's
fuel injected you don't have to deal with a carburetor or a manual
choke). It also has a higher redline and a wider power band making
it better suited for modern roads. Indeed, the 3FE feels "just
right" - an FJ40 that can get out of its own way and keep up with
traffic! The four-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly with no
crunchy synchros, and the clutch feels good too.
This FJ40 has a great look and is presented in one of the most
attractive original factory colors, and it's one of the better
driving Land Cruiser's we've encountered thanks to the engine
upgrade. For more information about this 1978 Toyota FJ40 for sale
