1946 Indian Chief
Let's start with a rare 1946 Indian Chief and then throw in an
amazing story. This Chief has been in the same family since it was
BRAND NEW. When we saw this bike, it was such a great history we
knew we had to have it.
Here is the story, as told to us by Paul, in his late 80's, as the
son of the ORIGINAL OWNER. My dad bought this Indian brand new in
June of 1946. He rode it until mid 1965. At that time, we both were
riding it. I purchased the bike in May of 1968 and continued to
ride it. In 2010 I felt it was time for a complete restoration and
I had it restored mechanically and cosmetically. Paul shared with
us that they used the original parts as much as possible. We have
receipts for the restoration totaling over $17,000 and completion
in 2011.
Paul maintains the 19200 miles on the bike are original and when we
came to pick up the Indian, Paul, at 89 years old, jumped on and
kick started his old friend. Paul also recounted stories of riding
the Indian as a kid and using it to "herd the cows". He's quite a
man. We need more like him...
The Indian is amazing, the story is amazing. During the restoration
Paul kept the original seat as a reminder of times gone by- it
still resides proudly on this Chief.
