For Sale: 1972 Oldsmobile Hurst in Volo, Illinois

Vehicle Description

1 owner 40 years and he only put 6,500 miles on it! Only 57,526 actual miles since new, this is an unabused survivor. #s matching, real Hurst Olds. Only 629 made total in 1972.
It is a significant car in muscle car history. This car was developed by Hurst Performance, not Oldsmobile. Much like a Yenko or early Shelby's they were new factory built cars then transformed by a famous performance company. The package offered increased performance and looks! This was the only time the Indy 500 was not paced by a car manufacturer. Hurst was the sponsor that placed the race. Hurst produced cars only 9 times over a 3 decade period, 1972 was the lowest production.

EXTERIOR: The Hurst features a ram air hood, a special paint scheme, blacked out grills and tail lights, a landau roof and Hurst emblems. The body is very clean and straight, I did not find any rust or damage. Everything fits very nicely, the doors click shut. The Ram Air hood is in excellent shape and fits real nicely. It was repainted a long time ago and still looks great, it has a smooth glossy finish. It has the correct fade away reflective stripes. The stripes are decals and have some imperfections and wrinkles. It has all original glass. The chrome and trim looks to be be good original. Rally lll wheels have new BFG tires.

INTERIOR: It has a very nice, all original unabused interior. I'm looking at a really nice dash area: the knobs, vents, heater control panel, original AM radio all look great. It has the unique Hurst emblem. Between the bucket seats is the famous Hurst dual gate shifter. Original upholstery is very good. The headrests, seat backs and the seat trim are mint. Original door panels are excellent. The headliner is mint. Carpet looks great, has correct floor mats. Original seat belts including the shoulder belts. The clock works!

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Original VIN number matching 455. All stock: manifolds, valve covers and complete ram air system. It has factory air conditioning that works, just serviced it. It looks very complete and correct: washers are hooked up, correct flaps on the radiator, " chicken wire" under the hood, GM hose and clamps, under hood lamp etc. It has power steering and brakes. The master cylinder and cadmium plated booster look new.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The trunk lid and the jamb are original white paint and still look real nice. It even has it's original weather strip from the factory. Inside is dry original metal with gray spatter paint. It has a correct two piece gray felt mat. The spare is a matching rally lll wheel on a Goodyear tire. Complete jack assembly including the lug wrench. It even has it working trunk light!

UNDERSIDE: under this car is well preserved original maintained as needed as the rally suspension which includes front and rear sway bars boxed rear control arms as disc brakes in front drum and back e-brake is hooked up as a dual exhaust with the trumpet tips going through the back bumper The oil pan looks clean starter looks brand new as it's original turbo 400 automatic trans 323 gears and back all original salad floors braces it's been protected with rustproofing since no

SERVICE: We inspected the car and service the air conditioning We replaced the limiter switch POA valve expansion valve and charged it with R12 Freon

The Hurst name is so prevalent with muscle cars from the beginning and still to this day. Hurst did not put their name on many cars, here is a rare and well preserved example. We are talking hundreds of these were made, not thousands!

I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle.
Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail.
