• 1 of 141 Speedsters special ordered in Schwarz (Black) out of
4,145 built
A well-preserved factory Black Speedster was completed on May 31,
1957. One owner for nearly five decades from 1969 to 2017.
Originally imported by Hoffman Motorcars in New York, New York to
its first owner. This example was finished from the factory in
Black (701) over Red leatherette upholstery. Original equipment
included sealed beam headlights and U.S. overrider bumpers. One of
590 Speedsters built for the end of the 1957-year model and only 40
were special ordered in Black for 1957!
The Speedster's exterior displays an incredible level of patina and
has only had one exterior repaint over the past 66 years. Original
paint is present in the door jambs, under the hood, and under the
rear deck lid. The body is incredibly straight, with no signs of
rust. Original decks and doors, windshield frame, seats, rear bench
seat, door panels, carpet, steering wheel, knobs, shifter knob, and
VDO gauges.
Mechanically, this is one of the best-driving 356 Speedsters we
have had over the years. The unrestored Porsche 356s drive like no
other. The matching 1600cc Normal engine producing 60 horsepower
runs phenomenally and the 4-speed manual (644) transmission shifts
perfectly with a four-wheel hydraulic drum braking system.
Complete with a Reutter - Certificate of Production, Kardex,
Certificate of Authenticity, Reutter Karosserie brochure, original
California Black plates, California registration cards from
1969-1982, an original Type 356 A Driver's Manual, tool kit, jack,
red boot cover, and side curtains.
European Collectibles has been at the forefront of preserving
original Porsches and has supplied many of our clients with
fantastically original cars such as this 1957 Porsche 356A
Speedster. Unrestored classics are at an all-time high and very
difficult to find! Extraordinary opportunity to purchase a true
time capsule finished in factory Black that is an amazing Speedster
to drive.
