Vehicle Description
2005 Pontiac GTO Coupe
In early 1963 a team of engineers and designers got together at
Pontiac, and decided to focus more on street racing and power. The
Tempest had been in production for a bit, and a more "muscular"
powerful car was needed. Hence the acronym GTO or Grand Tempest
Option became the code for the secret new development that would
take place. John DeLorean actually claims the GTO came from the
Italian Gran Turismo Omologato or Grand Touring Homologated,
(certified), which in reality the car was never meant for grand
touring, but to be the fastest straight line Pontiac produced.
Presenting in near showroom condition, this one owner low mileage,
(18,509 title verified actual), chassis is a sought after version
ready to humiliate others, and smoke out the masses. Some upgrades
to sugarcoat the deal even further in the form of an installed at
4,800 mile 550hp SLP 6.2 liter LS3 crate engine due to a failed
balancer and 2 destroyed pistons in the original engine make this
consignment a great little piece of automotive candy for someone
who has a sweet tooth for this kind of beastly exterior and leather
interior muscle.
Exterior
Just a Phantom Black Metallic blur can be seen when this car blows
by you. The paint is very nice, with just a few obstacles noted
from normal road usage. An open mouth aggressive front fascia with
integral fog lights leads the way and supports smooth aero European
inspired headlights that wrap the front quarters. A twin scooped
"Ram Air" style hood floats just above this and runs back to the
sharply raked front glass. Subtle curvaceous sides are kept simple
with chrome GTO badging and a thin black rub strip to protect the
doors, and front and rear quarters from errant shopping carts or
door dings. On the back is a beautifully sculpted spoiler on top of
the trunk lid, and just below more Euro aero wrap around tail
lights. The neoprene body matching rear bumper also sports a GTO
embossment in the matte black rear diffuser. Nice 17-inch
lightweight alloy wheels in shiny covering finish are wrapped in
245/45ZR17's from the 43rd week of 2022. Time to go...fast.
Interior
Nicely presenting and equally as welcoming sexy ebony leather
buckets are in front, and a 2 plus 2 bench which are essentially 2
more individual attached buckets are in back. GTO embroidery on the
backs of these chairs and big bolsters and inserts are all smoothed
over black leather. A very clean dash, with red background
instrumentation, and very clean controls, as well as a small LED
display in the center console are there for your monitoring. Billet
aluminum pedals and an original steering wheel are noted. A power
driver's seat, black sculpted center console and black leather,
vinyl and plastic door panels all make the interior of the "smooth
operator" a joy to behold.
Drivetrain
With a catastrophic failure to the original 6.0 LS2 V8 occuring at
4,800 miles, a SLP 6.2 liter LS3 engine now is gracing the engine
bay. This crate mill has been dyno tested and proved to produce 547
rear wheel horsepower and is fitted with a Manley 4340 forged
crank, SLP/Manley 4340 rods, SLP/Manley forged pistons and a
.519i/600e lift and 224i/228e duration camshaft. SLP LS3 cylinder
heads are bolted to the top of the mill and EFI is in charge of the
air and fuel mixture. A 4L65E 4-speed automatic with a limited slip
3.46 differential in the rear captures the ponies and turns them to
forward motion. All looking clean and great for this low mileage
goer and show-er. Long tube headers and stainless steel SLP
mufflers and piping pump out the sound of speed and power.
Undercarriage
In a nutshell, very clean, slight surface rust on the usual
corrosive steel parts, but totally unremarkable. Beautifully
preserved, and obviously never taken out in a snow/salt
environment. Independent suspension and power disc braking all
around all neat and tidy, just the way Pontiac created it.
Drive-Ability
Gotta love a low mileage piece of late model muscle, and this car
does not disappoint. All good under this hood, and in the seat and
surrounding environment. A pleasure to drive, fully functional, and
blisteringly fast thank you very much!
Taking a close look at this well cared for original. Black paint
that goes on for miles, and some belt line trimming, a monsterous
LS3 crate engine, shiny wheels, and smooth slippery ebony leather,
strap on your lead foot, and brush your sweet tooth, you are going
fill that cavity of a hankering for some Euro design and speed..
let's go for a ride!
