This 1966 Pontiac GTO is a real deal GTO with numerous tasteful
performance upgrades that make this muscle car an absolute blast to
drive! Back in 1964, few could have predicted the success the GTO
would experience and its immense influence across the entire
automotive industry. The the Pontiac Motor Division debuted the GTO
back in '64, it was merely an option package for the LeMans. The
idea behind this GTO package was rooted in the idea of placing one
of the biggest engines that Pontiac had to offer and placing it
into one of the smallest, and least expensive, Pontiac bodies. The
result was performance-oriented vehicle that would not only become
an instant hit but also launch America into the muscle car era!
After its two years of being an option package, Pontiac spun off
the the GTO in 1966 into its own separate model line within PMD.
While the dual stacked headlights would remain on the '66 GTOs,
General Motors' A-Body platform was substantially redesigned. With
new "Coke Bottle" body lines and a fresh new wire mesh grille
design, the 1966 GTO had a new silhouette and an updated look up
front. At the rear, the taillight design was updated and now
consisted of the triple stacked louvered design that was used in
1966 only. The GTO nameplate would also be found around the
exterior of the car including inside the grille, on the fenders and
the rear deck lid. The particular GTO comes to us after having
spent time in the hands of southern-based collectors who clearly
took great care of the car while under their stewardship. Powering
this '66 GTO is an upgraded 428 Cubic Inch V8 engine paired with an
Edelbrock single 4 barrel carburetor. The dressed up engine
compartment also features several upgrades including an aluminum
intake manifold, Mallory electronic ignition system, and Moroso
chrome valve covers and air cleaner. Exhaust exits the 428 block
via a set of Hooker headers and out through a dual exhaust setup
that has a nice meaty sound out the rear. The 428 NOM V8 is backed
by a 4 speed manual transmission that is shifted using a
floor-mounted Hurst shifter, making this classic Pontiac muscle car
an absolute blast to drive. The suspension has also been upgraded
with coilovers in all four corners along with traction bars in the
rear. Front disc brakes were added to provide improved stopping
power, especially with all that extra horsepower under the hood.
Riding on a set of polished American Racing rims with raised letter
radial tires, this 1966 GTO has a great look and even better ride.
The chrome and brightwork around the exterior of this Pontiac GTO
is in wonderful shape as well. The body on this 1966 GTO has been
refinished in a beautiful Montero Red that completes the exterior
look of the car. The interior on this Goat is absolutely stunning!
The front bucket seats and rear bench have been reupholstered in a
beautiful black vinyl. The black carpeting, black vinyl upholstered
door panels, and headliner all are in great shape and appear to be
in their stock configuration. The custom 4-spoke steering wheel and
custom dash are in great shape as well and sport a mild custom
look. The custom polished aluminum instrument cluster is comprised
of a 160 MPH speedometer, oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge,
volt gauge, and fuel gauge, along with a Pioneer AM/FM/CD
entertainment system and Vintage Air Conditioning controls. An
11,000 RPM tachometer and air conditioning vents are mounted neatly
under the dash as well. Whether you're buying your first muscle car
or you're adding to your existing classic car collection, this 1966
Pontiac GTO would make an excellent choice. Give us a call today at
