Chevrolet Corvette is a Red convertible with White Top and Red
interior that is #36 of the twin-turbo models produced by Callaway
for the model year(option had an original option price of $25,895).
The car is powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.7-liter L98 V8 coupled
with a six-speed ZF manual transmission installed in 1992 by Tommy
Morrison. Equipment includes a white convertible soft top, a
limited-slip differential, 17? Dymag/Callaway wheels, a Delco/Bose
cassette stereo, and power-adjustable bucket seats. The car is
finished in Red and features a manually operated white convertible
soft top, pop-up headlights, fog lamps, and quad exhaust outlets.
The 17? Dymag/Callaway wheels are mounted with 275/40 tires. The
car is equipped with an independent front and five-link rear
suspension, and front and rear stabilizer bars. Stopping power is
provided by anti-lock four-wheel disc brakes. The cabin features
power-adjustable bucket seats upholstered in Red leather along with
matching carpets and door panels. Amenities include an
AM/FM/cassette stereo as well as air conditioning and an onboard
computer. A commemorative plaque mounted on the center console
denotes this example is #36 of the Callaway Twin Turbo Corvettes
produced for the model year, and the Service Parts Identification
sticker affixed to the underside of the center console storage lid
includes option B2K. The two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel
frames a digital instrument panel that includes a speedometer, a
tachometer, and a fuel-level display as well as numeric readouts
for oil pressure, oil temperature, coolant temperature, and fuel
economy. A boost-pressure gauge has been added in place of the
left-center climate vent. The six-digit odometer shows 44722 miles.
The 5.7-liter L98 V8 is modified with twin turbochargers featuring
integrated wastegates and dual intercoolers. According to period
materials, the conversion raised output to 382 horsepower and 562
lb-ft of torque. Aerobody Kit was an additional $6500 in 1988 but
priced today from Callaway they are listed at over $20,000.
Corvette AeroBody was conceived by founder Reeves Callaway and
designed by Paul Deutschman of Deutschman Design. Reeves explained:
"We wanted to exploit the opportunity to re-engineer airflow
management outside the vehicle for added stability in the 200 to
250 miles per hour window. Next, we wanted to revise internal
airflow to provide additional engine cooling. Finally, we hoped to
illustrate that aerodynamic panels could be designed to complement
the beautifully integrated styling of the late model Corvette."
Callaway's efforts were proven when a prototype AeroBody kit was
installed during Callaway "Sledgehammer" preparation. In October
1988, this turbocharged, street-driven C4 Corvette shattered the
closed-circuit speed record with a run of 254.76 mph. Michael
