Vehicle Description
1986 Isuzu Trooper
With the popularity of off roading on the rise, manufacturers were
all looking to get in the game. Overseas in Japan that was no
different and Isuzu stepped up to the table with their Bighorn
series. This was exported to the US as the Isuzu Trooper but
interestingly also wore at least 9 different nameplates depending
on where they went. They were produced for two distinct generations
between 1981 to 2002 with this 1986 belonging to the 1st gen. It is
the 2 door LS version which is more desirable. These things have a
really unique look and being a vintage imported 4x4 you really just
don't see many of them out there. It wears a Silver and White two
tone paint with Maroon pinstriping going around the bodyline. We
don't know any history of accidents but the left front fender and
hood have been replaced in the past due to damage from a fallen
tree limb. The driver side rear door holds a spare and it also has
as smaller passenger side door giving you full access to the
interior. The glass is in good condition throughout and is tinted.
It has the standard front and rear bumpers with added fog lights up
front and a Valley Industries trailer hitch in back. The Black 16
inch wheels are all new and it also has new Thunderer Ranger A/T
tires including the spare.
The drive train of it has been fully gone through and runs great.
It has the 1.9 liter 4 cylinder motor that has been totally rebuilt
and has less than 20,000 miles on it since being completed. It
starts up smoothly and doesn't smoking or have any issues. It has a
5 speed manual that shifts well and is the more desirable
transmission. It has disc brakes up front and drum in back. They
are power and have been fully rebuilt. It also has all new
suspension bushings and rides down the road nicely. Mechanically it
is all pretty stock but anything that has needed attention has been
addressed. The only thing not on that list is the heater core which
has been bypassed but the factory AC is working properly. Since
they were off road vehicles a lot of these were ordered without any
luxuries so it having that AC option is a nice plus. It is 4 wheel
drive with auto hubs and also comes with a set of new billet
locking hubs.
The interior is all original and was ordered in a Tan color. The
dash has a mostly stock layout and the original gauges are all
working. The only major modification is an AM/FM/CD/Aux stereo
receiver has been added and sounds great. It has two rows of
seating with the high back buckets with headrests up front. It has
tons of rear storage space and a fitted mat is in place to keep the
upholstery protected from all your gear.
Due to the rarity of parts for the Trooper the owner made it a
habit to purchase parts whenever he saw them whether he needed them
or not. So it comes with a TON of extras. There are probably $3,000
in extra parts alone which include things like a weather strip kit,
brake master cylinder, corner marker lights, AC condenser, window
cranks and more. So with the purchase you also get a bunch of the
items needed to keep it road worthy for many years to come. It also
comes with an original owners manual and shop manual.
If you like unique then this isn't one to just gloss over. Not only
is it an interesting classic but it is being offered up at a very
reasonable price. It isn't that often you get a chance to buy a
vintage vehicle that will stand out in the crowd for an entry level
cost.
