Vehicle Description
With its flowing lines, the curb appeal of this 1998 Ford Mustang
GT Convertible is undeniable, and it's running in top form. But
believe it or not, this droptop has more going for it than its
appearance and sound condition. It's a member of the fourth
generation of Mustangs that saved the model from taking what would
have been an unfortunate turn. Only a few years before this Mustang
debuted, Ford was considering morphing the Mustang into a generic
front wheel drive compact, but the overwhelmingly positive response
to its generation thoroughly revitalized the model - and it hasn't
looked back since.
The exterior on this '98 is in impressive condition - it's much
fresher than you might expect from a car of this vintage - with
Laser Red paint that attracts attention and shows a deep, even
shine from front to back. A closer inspection will show body panels
that still align well and harbor no dents or dings - a finding that
will also be confirmed by this car's clean accident record. While
the fourth generation of Mustangs represented a dramatic change
from preceding generations, this car still retains a few styling
cues from its earliest predecessors - the running pony still takes
center stage on the front grille and the triple lens taillights
were a defining feature when the first Mustang rolled out more than
30 years before this one. The tan convertible top looks great,
works great, and offers the advantage of not showing dirt like
white tops do, nor absorbing nearly as much heat as the black
convertible tops you see so often.
Inside, the tan leather interior has held up well. The front bucket
seats still retain their original shape, with no splaying on the
bolsters, and the seating in back appears to be very lightly used.
The contrasting black dash area creates a nice look, with an
assembly of clear, functional gauges. Direct your attention to the
right and you'll see an AM/FM stereo that also has a cassette
player and a CD changer, so you'll have no shortage of audio
options at your disposal. Comfort and convenience features include
air conditioning that blows strong and cold, cruise control, a tilt
steering column, power seats, mirrors and door locks and a rear
window defogger - a welcome sight on a convertible like this. And,
since this Mustang might be a tempting target for someone with bad
intentions, there's an anti-theft system on board to bring you
peace of mind.
Raise the hood and you'll find a nicely maintained engine
compartment that houses a fuel-injected 4.6-liter V8 that received
a 10 horsepower boost the year this '98 rolled out. It's running in
top form and, considering the engine's reputation for longevity,
combined with its light usage over the years - it has logged only
about 40,000 miles - this convertible is well-positioned to provide
many enjoyable future miles. The engine pairs with a 5-speed manual
T45 transmission that shifts very precisely and is navigated via a
clutch that's reassuringly smooth - not too rigid and yet not too
light. Completing the drivetrain is a Ford 8.8 rear end that's also
known for its durability. 4-wheel anti-lock power brakes bring the
set of 17 GT wheels wearing General G-Max tires with plenty of
tread left on them to dependable, fade-resistant stops.
Running strong, looking sharp and representing an important chapter
in Ford's history, this 1998 Ford Mustang GT Convertible would be a
great acquisition for any droptop aficionado. Call today!
