Vehicle Description
Sporting a coveted color combination and an impressively fresh
overall condition, this 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 represents
an outstanding opportunity for the performance-centric motoring
enthusiast. Well cared for and lightly driven, it remains in almost
entirely stock condition - why mess with excellence? - save for one
well-chosen upgrade that really ups its game without detracting
from its surprisingly well-mannered drivability. This is an elite
performer that also won't be out of its element in everyday driving
conditions.
This Shelby's exterior is draped in Vapor Metallic, accented with a
pair of broad black stripes that run from front to back. It's a
great color scheme - attention-getting without being over the top,
as this definitely isn't a car that needs help attracting
attention. Badged striping that runs along the bottoms of the doors
and that telltale Shelby emblem on the front grille serve further
notice that this is no ordinary Mustang. Check out those windows at
the sides of the Shelby's sloping rear roofline - they're a nice
nod to the styling of its counterparts that roamed the asphalt all
the way back in the mid-'60s.
Even a detailed inspection of the interior will confirm that it has
been treated respectfully. Its charcoal black interior is still in
fine shape - despite the temptation this car offers for spirited
cornering, you won't even see much sign of wear on the bolsters of
its power front bucket seats. This is a comfortable driving
environment - the air conditioning blows cold and strong and there
are plenty of amenities on board here, including cruise control,
power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, speed control
and a tire pressure monitoring system, among others. The 6-speaker
Shaker 500 audio system offers premium sound and features a 6-disc,
in-dash CD changer as well as an MP3 player, while an active
anti-theft system with perimeter intrusion alarms will deter anyone
whose envy gets the better of them before they get too close.
The mere mention of the Shelby name conjures up images of smoking
rubber and exhilarating acceleration and this 2008 delivers on that
expectation. Lurking beneath its striped hood is a 5.4 liter
supercharged V8 that's good for 500 horsepower and 480 pound-feet
of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed TR-6060 transmission
that's ideally geared to take full advantage of its performance and
yet still offers a civilized driving experience in a variety of
conditions. When Motor Trend tested the 2008 Mustang Shelby GT5000
upon its release, it clocked a 4.3 0-60 time and yet its .63 sixth
gear ratio brings nice, low revs on the highway. Aftermarket
trailing arms - that's the well-chosen add-on we mentioned earlier
- makes for a bind-free suspension that delivers more predictable
handling. That's not to say that this '08 needed help in that
regard - during that same Motor Trend test, it logged a very strong
.89g on the skidpad. Sizable anti-lock Brembo power disc brakes at
all four corners bring rapid stops when needed. This Shelby rides
on a set of 18" wheels outfitted with P255/45ZR18 tires in front
and stout 285s in back for a nice, strong grip on the asphalt.
Looking great and harboring elite performance combined with plenty
of modern convenience features, this 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
would be a fitting centerpiece for any enthusiast's garage. Call
