Vehicle Description
1968 Ford Bronco
The idea behind the Bronco began with Ford product manager Donald
N. Frey in the early 1960's, (who also conceived the Ford Mustang),
and engineered by Ford engineer Paul G. Axelrad, with Lee Iacocca
approving the final model for production in February 1964, after
the first clay models were built in mid-1963. Developed as an
off-road vehicle, (ORV), the Bronco was intended as a competitor
for the Jeep CJ-5, International Harvester Scout and Toyota Land
Cruiser. Today a compact SUV in terms of size, Ford marketing shows
a very early example of promoting a civilian off-roader as a
"Sports Utility", (the two-door pickup version).
For consignment, a 1st generation 1968 Ford Bronco former barn find
in project form. Owned by our consignor for the last 9 years and
with all of the metalwork roughed in, this truck is a blank canvas
for you as a builder to allow your wildest dreams to come true. All
rust free, with rebuilt axles, a new 3" lift kit for the new
suspension, Wilwood 4 wheel disc brakes, and a clean andclear
title. What more can a lover of off-roading and DIYing ask for?
Giddyup...
Exterior
From the front grille, past the bumped steel hood, to the passenger
compartment, to the rear,it's all in various colorfinishes, but all
is rust free. The panels are straight with well minded gaps
although we areat the rough-in stage and sanding and final
alignment will come once you pick your color choice. All badging
has been removed and the FORD embossed tailgate is looking good.
There is no topper or glass installed, so win for you as there is
little to no disassembly required for when it'spainting time.
15-inch charcoal gray painted wheels are wrapped by BF Goodrich All
Terrain T/A in 33x10.50x15LT knobby rubber all around. Grab your
gear and let's break out the paint chip charts.
Interior
Swinging the rust free doors we now see a stripped and gutted
interior awaiting your capable hands. Solid freshly replaced
flooring beckons the upholstery guy in you and we note a few boxes
and totes filled with various parts. A cracked padded topper is on
the dash but all else in this area is vacant, again awaiting your
magical touch.
Drivetrain
A lift of the hood reveals a redone engine bay awaiting whatever
you can dream up to throw in it. No rust or rot here, just clean
metal. Our consignor notes that both the front and rear axles, Dana
and Ford 9" have been rebuilt, so that's another box to check off
that's been done for you. Give it a kick in the sides with your V8
spurs.
Undercarriage
All redone for the bottom end and it is snazzy. All painted nice
black and totally rust free here with a sandblasted and painted
frame. Freshly redone suspension with a 3" lift kit is noted and
specs out as radius arm and coil springs for the front suspension,
and on back leaf springs for the back. Wilwood 4 wheel disc brakes
are on all 4 corners.
A diamond in the rough is the key for this ready to build steel
bodied Bronco, except for it isn'trough at all. A beautifully done
undercarriage, all new steel panels with no rust, and an interior
and drivetrain department that are a blank canvas ready for you to
paint and make your own dreams come true. Turn some wrenches, open
a few catalogs and you are free to let the world's horses roam the
well...wild!
