Vehicle Description
1999 Ford Mustang Roush Stage II Convertible
If you are a motorsports fan, you recognize Jack Roush because of
his racing teams-and because of his trademark straw hat. He's "the
cat in the hat," as Benny Parsons puts it, the cat whose cars
dominated the SCCA's Trans-Am series and claimed 10 consecutive
class victories in the 24 Hours of Daytona. But where Roush's name
really has gained national prominence is in NASCAR's Winston Cup
series, with Mark Martin and Jeff Burton winning nearly 50 races in
Roush-prepared Fords.
For consignment, a Stage 2 Roush Mustang convertible in near
excellent condition. 1999 was the first year of the second
generation of Roush packages installed by Roush Performance. The
Stage 1 and Stage 2 packages were offered, each with side exhaust
150mph speedometer on a fully optioned Mustang GT. Stage 2 included
performance suspension upgrades. For this 2 owner model we see very
nice paint, a clean black top, and overall, in near showroom
condition, this car has been well taken care of throughout its life
and has been treated toa few performancebolt ons along the way.
Showing only 37,295 original garage kept miles, this 1999 high
performance pony has lots of life to offer a new owner.

Exterior
Showing in very nice sedate Silver Metallic, the exterior of this
car is nearly spotless. With its ground effects package, rear
spoiler, and cowlings, it sits low to the ground and looks fab!
Lots of Roush signature badges adorn the car over the silver and
they look just fab. Throaty side exhaust exits are molded into the
rocker cowling. A long hood starts out at the top of the deeply
inset grille insert and leads back to a 2003/2004 Cobra style heat
extractor hood, then onto the swept back windshield. Doors with
well minded gaps have another earlier cue in the hockey stick cove
which is in the beginnings of the rear quarter on this model. On
the back is a small but effective spoiler, and a now integrated
curved trio of rear tail lights, (think 1964-1/2!), with a large
rear neoprene bumper and a large MUSTANG embossment finishes off
the back. Up top is a black power actuated canvas convertible top
with a defroster equipped glass rear window. 18" chrome Roush 5
spoke wheels are on all 4 corners and are wrapped in deeply treaded
staggered width blackwall rubber.
Interior
A mixture of Charcoal Black color plastic, vinyl, and a touch of
carbon fiber combine and utilize their curved integration in the
door panels and the power window/lock/mirror switches reside in a
smooth black panel. This carries over to the dash which has 2
curved eyebrows that swoop downward in the center and form the
radio/climate control/ and gearshift cluster again with a
sprinkling of carbon fiber. The driver's instrument cluster has
white faced gauges, and these are placed in another silver/gray
carbon fiber background. These swoops utilize the same charcoal
black materials as the door panels and create a beautiful interior.
Buckets showing slight wear, are in Dark Charcoal leather, and have
a stitched in galloping horse across the upper portion of the
setback just for some visual fun. A 2 plus 2 rear seat is in the
back and appears to never have been sat in. Meanwhile, a light bar
has been added just behind the front buckets and emulates a roll
bar. Near perfect carpet floods the floor and has nicely
embroidered Roush floor mats to protect the carpet.
Drivetrain
A 4.6 Liter SOHC V8 is seen in a very clean engine bay. It is
topped with a BBK 78mm throttle body and a K&N cold air intake
and with the help of EFI and is capable of making 260+hp. MSD coil
packs are on tolight the fires within and our consignor notes that
underdrive pulleys have been installed tosqueak a few extra ponies
out of the mill. The factory black plastic cam covers are on and
bolted to the back of this potent mill is a Tremec T45 5-speed
manual transmission and weighing in at the tail end is a Ford 8.8
rear axle with a Cobra differential, 3.73 TracLoc gearing and 31
spline axles.
Undercarriage
As part of the Stage 2 Mustang package, handling is provided by
independent coil spring front suspension, and a 4-link rear
suspension which is easily discernible as many of the parts are
light blue. Larger power disc brakes are found, and you can see
nice red emblazoned Roush calipers through the shiny front wheels.
Manifolds feed down from the engine and send spent fumes out the
sides of the car via a Super Turbo muffler on the right side and a
Dynomax Muffler on the left. We note the catalytic converters have
been removed from the exhaust system.
Drive-Ability
This racer fired right up and on the test track performed
beautifully. Acceleration was limitless, handling was akin to Tommy
Kendall's 11-time winning Roush prepared Trans-Am racer and braking
was more than adequate even during our panic stop test. All in all,
a great driver and performer and with the side exhaust you really
become one with the car, especially in the high RPM's. No issues
crept up during our drive and it was heaven to enjoy the AC with
the top down.
One of the best kept secrets of its time, a drop top Mustang with
Roush performance backing, very well cared for example, with very
nice paint, correct Roush badging, and all its aero cowlings. This
car was treated like a favorite toy, played with then put securely
away for the next time. All in great condition, very clean, and
ready to perform, turning heads and providing smiles on the faces
of the new owners.
