Vehicle Description
1993 Ford Bronco Custom
The fifth and final generation of Bronco attained infamy when O.J.
Simpson led the police on a car chase through L.A. Before that
though, the three door, hardtop SUV was geared more towards safety
than previous generations of Bronco had been. The fifth generation
was given substantial safety increases. From front crumple zones
and three-point seatbelts to a driver side airbag.
For consignment, a rarely seen Custom version of the 1993 Bronco
from the blue oval. A former Border Patrol vehicle from Arizona,
come scenic PA in 2019, albeit at that time it had a blown up
engine. Many upgrades have been put on during the routine
maintenance life of this vehicle, and a repaint has been performed
leaving us with a rust-free example that's ready to show and haul.
A crate engine from Autozone with the remainderof the nationwide
warranty, sporty wheels and removable hardtop this is full size 4
wheelin' with the classic Bronco look.
Exterior
Very clean and Steel Blue Metallic bathes the hood, cab, sides, and
gate, and lower portions of this Custom series station wagon...yes,
that's how they are titled. Some roughness to the finish is noted
along with some inclusion, but nothing that a good wet sanding and
polishing couldn't fix. A body matching painted fiberglass top is
installed and can be removed to give you an open-air option.
Badging and chrome is correct and in excellent condition and I love
the fact that no striping or fanciness has been added to break up
the nicely industrial slab sided steel. Nearly new knobby BF
Goodrich all terrain T/A Radials are on all 4 corners, and wrap
large polished aluminum Mickey Thompson wheels with locking hubs. A
clean tailgate finishes off our tour and is equipped with a power
window.
Interior
A swing of the doors reveal a pair of large overstuffed buckets
clad in herringbone patterned gray tweed broadcloth on the seating
surfaces and smooth lighter gray broadcloth on the sides. A rear
bench, which will fold down expanding the already spacious cargo
area, is installed behind the buckets and matches the buckets
perfectly. The front buckets are manually actuated with power
bolsters and show with light wear and tearing on the outer part of
the lowers and the rear bench seat is in nice unused condition. The
dash setup is standard Ford fare with gray over black for the
inserts with a cracked gray padded topper. This dash was formerly
blue and dyed gray by our consignor. The doors use some gray vinyl
and molded plastic panels and present in like new condition. All
business here with crank windows, manual locks and manual mirror
adjustments. The standard black steering wheel fronts the analog
gauge cluster complete with its LCD odometer readout. Storage room
is ample in the rubber matted area behind the rear seat, but we do
note heavy scale rust on the rear floor along with a few areas
where the rust has created holes in the flooring. Heavy duty black
rubber matting in a lightly soiled black color is covering the
front floors as well.
Drivetrain
A replacement 5.8 liter V8, with all new sensors, is fed by EFI
lurks in the cavernous engine bay with everything looking just
great with a light coating of patina and dust. The engine is a
replacement and is covered under the Autozone Nationwide Warranty
until the end of April 2025. This warranty covers parts and labor,
so rest assured this truck will haul for you for many miles. A
recentlyserviced E4OD 4-speed automatic transmission is attached to
the back and sends power to the 3.55 geared rear axle when in
2-wheel drive mode and to both the front and rear axles when 4x4 is
engaged.
Undercarriage
Clean, some surface rust on the untreated components with no
structural damage and even the untreated factory floor pans are
looking great save for the earlier mentioned cargo area invasive
rust. Radius arm and coil springs for the front and leaf springs
for the back with all new bushings provide the ride and new power
disc brakes are upfront, and new power drums on back bring this
bucking horse to a halt. Our consignor notes that the driveshaft
U-joints were recently replaced and new wheel bearings were
installed on the hubs. A single exhaust snakes its way rearward
then joins a Flowmaster muffler before splitting off into dual
piped tips that exit behind each rear wheel.
Drive-Ability
The test track was no match for this big Bronco. Smooth
acceleration, good handling for a truck and plenty of creature
comforts that work perfectly and biad free stopping, while a bit
hairy due to a soft and sinking brake pedal, was adequate. While we
didn't take any off-road excursions but we were able to engage the
4 wheel drive with success.
With a new warranted crate engine, a very nice exterior, and a
clean interior this hauler has lots of life left in it. Lots of
recent service performed and cold air conditioning. Well cared for
and runs nicely with plenty of power if you want to rock and
climb!
