Southern California 356, single-family ownership for over five
decades, and retains its original engine and transmission per
factory Kardex. Finished in its original color combination of
Signal Red over Black leatherette upholstery. Factory options
include chrome wheels and a side-view mirror. Delivered to the
first owner, Mr. Tabello, on May 5, 1964, by Competition Motors in
Culver City, California. By 1970, ownership transferred to the
current family who has cherished it for over 50 years. Service
invoices from the mid-1980s show regular maintenance performed by
Haydon Bros, Inc in Fullerton, California. The last documented
invoice dates to 1987 at 51,191 miles, after which it was driven
sparingly and eventually stored in a garage for the past 35
years.
After years in storage, the 356SC was transported to European
Collectibles for necessary maintenance and repairs to ensure a
smooth return to the open road. The work included overhauling the
braking system by replacing the master cylinder, brake hoses, and
bleeding the brakes. The jets were cleaned, the accelerator pump
diaphragms were replaced, and the valves were adjusted. Lastly, the
fuel pump and distributor were rebuilt while new spark plugs and
axle boots were installed. Cosmetically, the interior was
completely reupholstered with Black German material including
charcoal square weave carpeting, front and rear seats, door panels,
rear panels, and dash. Subsequently, the undercarriage was
completely stripped to bare metal and recoated with a German Wurth
undercoat while the suspension components were repainted. With
these comprehensive maintenance measures completed, this 356SC
Coupe is now ready to deliver a thrilling driving experience once
again.
The Signal Red paintwork is in beautiful condition, enhanced by a
stunning new German interior, rubber seals, aluminum trim, and
brightwork. The cabin is complete with an original VDM steering
wheel, restored VDO instrumentation, a clock, and a radio delete
plate. 4.5" x 15" chrome wheels are fitted to Vredestein Sprint
Classic 165 15 tires.
Powered by the matching 1600cc flat-four 356SC engine producing
95hp paired to a 4-speed manual transmission with four-wheel disc
brakes. Complete with a partial tool kit, owner's manual, spare
wheel, jack, and over 50 years of registration cards and records. A
