Vehicle Description
Chassis No. WDB4632721X219585
The Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6X6 was sold as the car for those ready
to declare automotive independence with "the most spectacular
cross-country vehicle of all time." This vehicle combines the
vastly different worlds of the AMG brand with 30 years of proven
off-road capabilities from the Gelndewagen in both civilian and
military applications to create a truly unparalleled offering by
any other manufacturer. The first-class level of interior luxury
appointments cocoons the occupants from the rigors of extreme
off-road situations that can cope with any terrain or weather along
the way. Upon returning to the pavement, the AMG power creates a
versatile machine capable of blistering performance figures.
The sheer magnitude and presence of the vehicle are staggering;
over seven feet tall, nearly seven feet wide, and 20 feet long -
over 3 feet longer than a standard G-Class. Housed within those
parameters are six wheels that are mounted to three separate axles.
Add in the lavish seating for four in individually adjustable
bucket seats. It is no surprise that it hits the scales weighing a
staggering 9,050 pounds.
Proven with the military modular system, this vehicle marks the
first civilian passenger car by Mercedes that features a newly
developed portal axle design. This system moves the axle centerline
higher than in traditional applications, increasing the ground
clearance by nearly half a meter. All six wheels can be locked via
a total of five separate locking units, providing a 30:40:30 power
split. Each of these three axles features independent suspension,
allowing for an autonomous operation that makes for the best
possible surface contact, even during the most challenging of
topographical conditions. This is aided by the two rear axles being
only 1100 mm apart and working in conjunction with the hlins
bypass shock absorbers.
An onboard tire inflation system is available to easily vary tire
pressures without ever having to leave the cabin. This system
allows for the pressures to be varied between the front and two
rear axles with just a touch of a button. Aided by beadlock tires,
this innovative system utilizes a high-capacity air pump along with
four 20 liter air tanks to refill the tires from just 0.5 bar in
the sand to the recommended 1.8 for road use in approximately 20
seconds, compared to nearly 10 minutes in more conventional
systems.
All of these off-roading capabilities are superb attributes to have
in a vehicle, but as a Mercedes G-Class, the G63 AMG 6X6 truly
excels in its luxury features as well. Astounding passenger
amenities include the Harman Kardon stereo integrated through the
Mercedes COMAND system with built-in navigation, and dual-zone
climate control for four-place seating. Each occupant has their own
electrically adjustable bucket seat with controls for both heating
and cooling. With all of these luxury off-road capabilities coming
in over a hefty four and a half tons, the experts at AMG knew just
the right engine to power it - the 5.5-liter "M157" biturbo V8. In
stock form, this engine produces 536 horsepower, which is capable
of rocketing this brute to sixty miles per hour in just 7.8
seconds.
This particular G 63 AMG 6X6 was ordered new in Germany in Designo
Bright Mystic White II with a Designo Light Brown leather interior.
Following the initial delivery, the vehicle was taken to BRABUS of
Bottrop, Germany for modifications to B63S-700 specification. Work
by BRABUS included installing a custom-designed ECU, larger
turbochargers, new intake air pipes with gold heat shielding, an
additional air-to-water intercooler, high-performance catalytic
converters with 75 mm, lower-resistance stainless steel downpipes,
and butterfly valves to route the exhaust through the side pipes
when desired. This work increased horsepower by 23 percent for a
total of 700. Additional vents have been added to the hood and the
tops of the fenders to aid in keeping this potent V8 running
cool.
BRABUS did more than just modify the engine. The interior was
refinished in black and white BRABUS fine leather with a hex-grid
pattern created by contrasting stitching. This leather covers the
seats and is extended onto the door panels. The black leather
headrests prominently display the vehicle's unique attributes with
stitching reading "BRABUS 700." Continuing the white and black
theme is white carbon fiber trim used throughout the interior and a
black Alcantara headliner. The wheels were upgraded with black and
red Hutchinson beadlock wheels with BRABUS center caps currently
shod with 37 by 13.5-inch Nitto Ridge Grappler tires. The exterior
of the car also received additional LED lighting, BRABUS badging on
the rear, in addition to a red G700 badge in the grill, and a "B"
in place of the Mercedes logo throughout the car.
Following the completion of the work at BRABUS, the 6X6 was
imported into the United States under Show and Display. A sticker
has been affixed in the engine compartment showing that this car
has been modified to meet the EPA emission standards in September
2014 by G&K Automotive Conversion of Santa Ana, California. The
vehicle is accompanied by its importation documents and a letter
from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
confirming that its request to be in the United States under the
Show or Display Rule was granted. In September 2021, the tires,
front brake pads, and one of the drive shafts were changed. More
recently, this 6X6 was serviced by Three Point Motors of Victoria,
British Columbia, Canada, where a "Service A" was performed, and a
fuel line was replaced. Today, the odometer displays just over
10,000 miles at the time of cataloging. With just over 100 6X6s
being produced, the added exclusivity of the BRABUS upgrades only
adds to the appeal of "the most spectacular cross-country vehicle
of all time."
