Vehicle Description
Chassis No. FJ40-933979
Initially launched in 1951, the Toyota Land Cruiser is famous for
its rugged dependability. The J40 series, launched in 1960, was the
long-lived third generation of Land Cruiser, with production
finally ceasing in 2001. Offered with a variety of gasoline and
diesel engines in two and four-door station wagons and trucks with
a hard or soft folding roof - a variety of choices that increased
the broad appeal of this go-anywhere Toyota. This, along with a
long production run, meant that the J40 had become both an
automotive icon and a beloved classic before the last one came off
the assembly line.
This particular 1982 FJ40 began life in Venezuela, where it is
referred to as the "Toyota Macho." The truck is equipped with two
front bucket seats and two inward-facing bench seats in the rear. A
4.2-liter "2F" inline-six-cylinder powers the truck and is mated to
a four-speed manual transmission. Before the power is sent to all
four wheels, it is directed through a two-speed transfer case.
Manual locking hubs increase fuel efficiency and decrease wear to
the front axle when not needed.
While its early history is unknown, after the truck was brought to
the United States, it was sent to House of Cruisers of Miami,
Florida, to be restored. After stripping it down to a bare chassis,
the body was refinished in Freeborn Red, contrasted by a White
roof. While the interior was being refinished, it was upgraded to
black leather seat coverings and door panels. Equipped with power
steering, maneuvering the truck is made easy with its 15 inch steel
wheels with BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A tires. Originally sold in a
tropical climate, the truck was not equipped with a heater,
defroster, or air conditioning, but since then, a Nostalgic AC
system was installed during the restoration.
Following the completion of its restorative work, this collectible
Land Cruiser features Toyota's rugged built-in engineering, with a
nod to some of the modern amenities expected today. With
underpinnings that have stood the test of time, this FJ40 offers
outstanding capabilities to continue the journey long after the
pavement stops.
