Vehicle Description
Chassis No. WBAEJ13492AH61727
Arguably representing the pinnacle of retro-inspired cars designed
in the late 1990s, the BMW Z8 harkens back to the timeless 1956 BMW
507 designed by Albrecht von Goertz. This graceful roadster
features an all-aluminum chassis, seating for two, and is powered
by BMW's "S62" 4.9-liter V8. The S62, also available in the M5 of
the period, bestows the Z8 with ample power and excitement. With
395 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque on tap, paired with its
modest weight of just under 3,500 lbs, zero to sixty miles an hour
occurs in just over four seconds. This Ultimate Driving Machine was
built for more than straight-line performance, however, with a
stiff chassis that has nearly perfect weight distribution. Car and
Driver compared its exceptional acceleration, braking, and handling
capabilities to the class-leading Ferrari 360 Modena. The
critically acclaimed styling was the work of the Danish designer
Henrik Fisker, who already had an intimate relationship with the
BMW brand as he worked on some of the company's most beloved models
of the period.
This well-preserved Z8 was ordered in striking Jet Black over Black
Nappa leather with matching soft and hard tops. The BMW Z8 Registry
notes this as being one of 667 cars worldwide to be finished in
this color combination. According to the accompanying CARFAX
report, after clearing US customs in Port Hueneme, California, on 6
May 2002, the car was first sold in Arizona on 13 June 2003. The
car was then moved to New York and sold to its second owner in 2005
with just 315 miles indicated at the time of purchase. The car
remained with the second owner for only nine short months, with the
odometer displaying 600 miles when it entered into long-term
ownership with the current consignor over 16 years ago in September
of 2006. Today this Z8 displays under 1,400 miles at the time of
cataloging, offering a near-new car experience with its outstanding
originality throughout. It has been driven sparingly, but with
frequency to make sure all systems are functional and
exercised.
A pristine example of BMW's top-of-the-line model for the early
2000s, this low-mileage Z8 is offered in a timelessly elegant color
scheme and has been the recipient of careful long-term ownership.
Today it is accompanied by a tool roll, owner's manual in the
correct Z8 leather pouch, tonneau cover, hard top, windscreen, and
hard top stand. It is most certainly one of the finest, lowest
mileage examples of this modern classic available anywhere - a rare
opportunity, indeed.
