Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is proud to offer this
1971 Plymouth Valiant Scamp. Back in 1971, when Chrysler's Plymouth
division wanted to have its own version of the highly popular Dodge
Dart Swinger and as a result, Plymouth created the "Scamp", based
on the Plymouth Valiant. This example is finished in the rare
option of Bahama Yellow paint with the vinyl roof that helps change
things up a bit and highlights the concave rear window and
pillarless greenhouse very nicely. Originally a Canadian market
example, this Scamp came with the 318CID V-8 mated to the A904
TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission and a 8 rear end
with 2.76 gears both with a full rebuild in 2016. Work included a
.030 overbore, fitment of a slightly hotter cam, aluminum radiator,
rebuilt, shaved heads with 360 exhaust valves, re-sized connecting
rods with ARP bolts, hardened distributor shaft, double roller
timing chain set, new fuel, oil, and water pumps, a fresh
alternator and starter, ceramic coated OEM exhaust manifolds,
rebuilt Rochester two-barrel carb with fresh stainless fuel lines
and an electronic distributor. The transmission was also rebuilt,
and a new torque converter installed, the driveshaft was
re-balanced, and the leaf springs and shocks were also replaced.
The cabin features two rows of bench seats trimmed in the original
black vinyl accompanied by color-coordinated door panels,
headliner, carpet, and dash. The three-spoke steering wheel is
mounted to a tilting column and frames a 120-mph speedometer and
auxiliary gauges consisting of battery charge, coolant temperature
and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 54k miles,
although true mileage is unknown. This Scamp makes for a fun speed
machine from day one and has a ton of potential for wherever you
want to take it in the future.
