Sometime between the production of the '54 Motorama show cars and
the '57 Brougham, Cadillac apparently tested the production
quad-headlamp design on a few, otherwise stock, 1956 Eldorados. At
least three cars that were built with the quad-headlamp setup are
known to survive today, comprising two Eldorado Biarritz
convertibles and one Seville hardtop. Since this modification is
virtually the same on all three cars, it is likely that the change
was performed at the factory when the cars were new. Offered here
is the only known '56 Eldorado Seville hardtop with quad headlamps
and in addition to the headlamp treatment, it carries the window
trim scheme of the 1956 Castilian show car and the rubber-tipped
"Dagmar" bumper bombs that entered regular production for the '57.
It is understood that two of its former owners retained the Seville
over lengthy periods of time. As offered, it is handsomely finished
in black over white with a matching two-toned leather interior and
well-equipped with power-operated brakes, door locks, front seat,
steering, and windows, plus striking gold "Saber-Spoke" wheels and
a spotlight at the driver's side. The original 365 cubic inch
engine, with its dual four-barrel carburetors, is topped with the
iconic batwing air cleaner, reported to run well and mated to a
smooth-shifting Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, making this car
wonderful and virtually effortless to drive. Additionally, the
Seville was freshly serviced. This very special 1956 Eldorado
Seville is elegantly presented and with all identification markings
and paper tags remaining in their proper locations. This
fascinating 1956 Eldorado Seville offers the best of GM's 1950s
dream-car design and remains a touchstone to the corporation's rich
Motorama era with its distinctive look. As such, it is ideally
suited for continued showing and touring, and it will certainly
make a great addition to any collection celebrating fine automotive
design and one-off special features.
