Known as the first turbocharged European Production car, only 1,672
examples were built over a two-year production run. This rare and
desirable high-performance BMW was originally delivered new to
Milano, Italy. Finished in Chamonix White (085) the exterior is
complemented by BMW Motorsport stripes, a Turbo-specific body kit,
Motorsport stripe package, an air dampener with reversed text, a
trunk lid spoiler, a "turbo" badge on the rear panel, and TOYO
Extensa A/S tires on 13" wheels w/color-crest BMW center caps. The
spartan black interior features a three-spoke steering wheel with
BMW horn button, and a bold, red instrument cluster surround.
An immediate hit with performance-oriented drivers, the BMW 2002
Turbo, "...contradicted the spirit of the times like no automobile
before. The turbo debutante's top speed was extremely impressive
for the time. It meant that the BMW 2002 Turbo was playing in the
top league in the 1970s - offering as it were a season ticket for
the overtaking lane of the autobahn."
Bavarian Rennsport in Ramona, California, performed a comprehensive
service, including new ignition wires, spark plugs, Bosch red coil,
starter, battery, turbo oil return hose, clean injectors, the fuel
injection pump was rebuilt by Pacific Fuel Injection, adjustments
to the KKK turbocharger, replace lower control arms and bushings,
tie rod ends, electrical diagnostics, oil and filter change, total
of $7,800 was spent.
This 2002 Turbo is powered by a four-cylinder, 2.0L, Turbocharged
Multipoint Injection engine that produces up to 170 HP at 5800 RPM,
and 177 lbs.-ft at 4000 RPM. Power is driven to the rear wheels
through an upgraded five-speed manual transmission (the original
4-speed transmission is included). 0-60 MPH could be achieved in
7.3 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 130 MPH.
The sale of this 1973 BMW 2002 Turbo, located in California, will
include a clean title, Owner's manual, recent service receipts,
