Vehicle Description
Nicknamed the "Big Healey" and one of Britain's best-known sports
cars was the Austin Healey 3000 due to its powerful 6-cylinder
engine. The first Mark III BJ8's were introduced in December of
1963. Refinements included better engine internals, twin 2" HD8 SU
carburetors, improved exhaust system, and a walnut veneer dash to
add a stronger element of luxury to a very deserving automobile! By
May of 1964, the "Phase II" model introduced a modified rear
suspension to allow for better ground clearance. 1967 was the final
year for these sports cars and through its production run 17,712
Mark IIIs were built.
We are very proud to offer this beautiful 1967 Austin Healey 3000
Mark III convertible finished in Ivory White with a Black Ambla
vinyl interior and top. Powering this sharp driving Healey is its
original 2912cc inline 6-cylinder engine with twin SU carburetors
mated to a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive. This late
production model was built in July and features a heater,
adjustable steering column, black tonneau cover, 15" wire wheels,
AM/FM radio, front disc brakes, Smiths gauges, wooden shift knob,
chrome bumpers, folding rear seat, dashboard mounted rearview
mirror, rubber mats, glovebox, laminated windshield, and a top
boot.
This late production model shows 45,840 miles on the odometers and
comes with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate.
Being treated to a complete transmission overhaul in April 2023,
this Austin Healey largely remains a well-kept original vehicle.
The exterior surfaces were refinished in their factory appointed
color by the previous owner who originally bought this Healey in
1990 and kept it for 30 plus years to enjoy sparingly in his large
automobile collection. New carpets were installed but the
upholstery on the seats including the fold down rear seat remains
all original, as is the factory paint still found under the trunk
lid, engine compartment, and door jambs. More recently, our museum
upholstery shop fitted a new crush grain vinyl convertible top,
along with a desirable cabin tonneau cover and new front
seatbelts.
Our service department installed new engine side plate gaskets,
gearbox oil seals, pinion seal, new radiator cap, oil filler cap,
fresh spark plug wires, and new rear exhaust tips. Providing quick
throttle response and excellent steering, it's easy to see why
these inline 6-cylinder Austin Healey Mark III's are still so
beloved to this day. If you're looking for a sporty driver or just
a classic automobile that you can take out and enjoy, then look no
further as this convertible! It is sure to excite you and have you
waiting for the next good weather weekend for a cruise! Thank you
for your interest and please reach out directly to our museum for
more information and to schedule a time to come see this lovely
Mark III in person.
