Vehicle Description
This gorgeous example of one of Volkswagen's rarest models is now
at MotoeXotica Classic Cars - a 1961 three-door, double-cab pickup,
which has benefited from a comprehensive restoration.
Dressed in Alabaster Gray over Mouse Gray, the exterior was
recently treated to a wet-sand and polish, really making it stand
out. The split windshield panels pop out and the side windows slide
back and forth while the van has Hella headlights. The paint and
trim are in excellent order overall. There are new front and rear
glass panels and new seals. The cargo bed looks great and includes
a Protecta Skid Gard mat. The vehicle was previously restored. The
engine bay is very tidy and the front chrome bumper fits tightly to
the body.
This pick-'em-up truck rolls on new Coker Classic wide whitewalls,
size 165R15 at all four corners. Each one is mounted on a steel
wheel, topped with a factory chrome, moon wheel cover. The wheel
covers are in excellent order while the tires are in very good
condition. There are also replacement brakes. That have been drove
by the previous owner.
In back is a professionally rebuilt 1.6L flat, air-cooled
four-cylinder engine breathing via dual exhausts. It has fewer than
2,000 miles on the rebuild as stated by the prior owner. Backing
the motor is a rebuilt four-speed manual transmission, which has a
new clutch and pressure plate.
Inside is a newer, Mouse Gray Houndstooth cloth interior. The dual
bench seats look fantastic, as does the headliner and the black,
two-spoke steering wheel. The dashboard has VDO gauges while it and
the inner door panels echo the two-tone exterior and a floor
shifter helps complete the interior, along with a modern AM/FM
radio.
Competition to this VW in 1961 included Chevrolet's C10 crew cab,
Dodge's W-100 QuadCab, Ford's F-250 Crew Cab Cruiser, GMC's custom
crew cab truck and International Harvester's Travelette four-door
truck.
This beautiful, double-cab VW Pickup is a unicorn in the automotive
universe. If you want it for your own, visit MotoeXotica Classic
Cars soon before it's just a memory!
