Ever since Ford developed Mercury, and debuted the Mercury 8 in
1939, Mercury served as a premium line for the Ford Motor Company.
Mercury served as a needed bridge to fill the gap between the Ford
and the Lincoln lines. This 1939 Mercury Sport Convertible is an
excellent example of these first year Mercurys. Being the first
year Mercury and first year convertible for Mercury, makes this
convertible a rare piece of automotive history. It is believed that
there were less than 8000 convertible Mercurys built in 1939. This
beautiful Mercury benefits from an older street rod style
restoration that still presents in overall excellent condition. The
Bright Red exterior shines extremely well and is in excellent
condition. The factory steel body is in excellent condition and
very straight. The exterior of this gorgeous Mercury is
complimented nicely by its excellent Tan canvas soft-top, factory
chrome and stainless trim and a set of chrome American Racing
Torque Thrust wheels wrapped in General Altimax RT tires. This
Mercury's custom Tan leather interior presents in excellent
condition with very little wear or age to note. Powering this great
Mercury is a Ford 302 cubic inch V8 backed by a 3-speed automatic
transmission. Both the engine and transmission perform just as they
should with no issue. This Mercury Sport Convertible still rides on
its factory chassis and frame, which have been painted and nicely
detailed for show. The handling of this Mercury has been greatly
improved by the Mustang II front suspension with coil over shocks,
tubular "A" arms and 4 link Ford 9" rear differential. This Mercury
is nicely equipped with features such as power front disc brakes,
tilt steering, windshield wipers (in-op), and an aftermarket
Classic Instruments gauge set. Here is an opportunity to own a rare
street rod that is rarely seen. If you are in the market for a
turn-key ready, convertible street rod that would present very well
at your local cruise-in or car show, then you will want to take a
very close look at this beautiful 1939 Mercury Sport
Convertible.
