For Sale: 1948 Ford Station Wagon Woody in Tucson, Arizona

Vehicle Description

1948 Ford Woody Wagon. Formerly owned by Gilbert H Scribner, a prominent real estate Broker who worked for the firm Scribner & Co which managed huge assets such as the Wrigley and IBM buildings, supervised acquisition of the land for many of the Chicago expressways, for O`Hare International Airport, for several North Michigan Avenue properties and for city parking lots and parks. ''You didn`t have a deal in downtown Chicago without the Scribner name appearing in the process,'' a real estate dealer said. His Father was a board member of the Chicago Cubs.

To escape the Big City life, the Scribner Family vacationed at the Coleman Lake Club, which is nestled in the woods of northern Wisconsin. The club was founded in the 1880s, and on its 10,000 acres of birch, oak, pine and aspen are five ponds and five lakes, not counting Lost Lake, which cannot be found. In those 10 bodies of water one can catch—in order of preference—brown, rainbow and brook trout, smallmouth and largemouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, sunfish, bluegills, crappies and the regrettable sucker. This was the rig that got people around at the members only Club.

The Woody just came out of long term storage and has had recent mechanical service. The brakes were gone through with new Master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and front Shoes. The Fuel system, cooling system, and ignition system were serviced. The Chassis was lubed and 4 new Goodyear tires were installed, replicas of the type of tire that came on this wagon originally.

Years ago it had some cosmetic restoration performed that I would describe as amateur. The paint has many flaws and imperfections but was repainted in its original color of "Pheasant Red,"  fitting for a North Woods hunting and fishing wagon. Seats were redone at some point and the wood body had been refinished, all very serviceable. The Body is solid and all the lumber is good and tight with no rotting. Doors open and close with no sagging. All of the windows roll up and down with ease and the original Felts are in good shape for their age. It has neat accessories such as the "Fulton" window shade, and front bumper guards.

Very Cool Woody Wagon with a fantastic history that is ready to enjoy. Amazing Patina makes this one you can use as intended without the fear of a scratch or chip on a pristine restored example. The Coleman Lake Club Woody Wagon.
