For Sale: 1976 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 in Missoula, Montana

Vehicle Description

-Original hard top, doors, roll bar, and jump seats.

-Canvas soft top, bows, and half doors manufactured in Pakistan to represent original equipment.

-1993 Chevrolet Caprice 350 TBI with less than 5000 miles. I salvaged this motor and had it completely restored by the most reputable machine shop in Missoula. The rotating assembly - crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons - was balanced by them. I installed an RV camshaft, Edelbrock intake manifold, and flat top pistons, and advanced the valve timing. The result is a smooth running small block with generous torque that pulls hard from idle to just below red line.

-1999 Dodge NV4500 5-speed transmission. First choice in the 90's and 2000's for heavy pickup trucks with high torque engines. More than strong enough for serious off-roading. Very solid.

-Original Toyota transfer case completely overhauled. The one place where I chose not to pursue extreme low gearing. Happy to say the gearing is low enough for moderate to advanced off-roading and very well suited for highway travel at 75 mph.

-Front ARB air locker with onboard air. The ultimate differential lock - completely free wheeling until you engage it. Professional aftermarket mounting hardware for the York compressor. I added a tubular rear bumper that doubles as a compressed air reservoir.

-Rear Aussie locker. A ratcheting differential locker that free-wheels until you apply torque (throttle). It is not the most pavement friendly option and takes a little driver skill to use. I am happy to pull this locker and re-install open gears, which gives a smoother ride on the street.

-33 x 10.50 BFG Mud Terrain tires on custom steel wheels. Lots of tread left. Includes a matching spare. Excellent tires and wheels.

-BDS deluxe 4” lift kit. One of the softer riding options that still gives enough clearance to run 33" tires. The previous springs rode like a buckboard over rough terrain. Good riddance to them!

-Bobby Long birfields and inner axles. Not a common upgrade. These axles are virtually unbreakable. With stock Toyota parts in high torque maneuvers you risk losing a birfield on the trail. It is much less hassle to break a hub than a birfield. You can at least limp home in 3 wheel drive. A Longfield will never break. Peace of mind more than anything I suppose.

-GM power steering with Flaming River collapsible steering shaft and u-joints and all new tie rod ends. One of the most common upgrades and worth ten times any of the other modifications you can think of, with the possible exception of a 12 volt cooler. :) The collapsible shaft is a safety feature. The truck steers very well at any speed.

-Metal Tech roll cage. High end tubular steel cage bolted and/or welded directly to the frame. This cage will save lives in a roll over.

-4Plus front bumper. A clean, solid platform for a winch, bull bar, running lights, etc.

-Aussie brush guard. One of several styles available. Nothing special.

-Custom rocker panel guards. Most useful as protection from rocks and stumps off road but they also make a decent place to step into and out of the truck.

-Tuffy center console. Heavy steel, locking cabinet. Virtually bomb proof.

-Volvo leather seats. These have seen better days. Very comfortable and safe but the leather has hardened and cracked in places.

-Dual fuel tanks. Aftermarket rear tank for extended trips.
