A first-generation Camaro is one of the most desirable models of the muscle car era, and there are plenty of examples on the market.  But you will have to look long and hard to find another as nice as this 1969 COPO 427ci replica.  This example is far from just an engine swap and a paint job.  Everything was done right on this one; acid dipped body, L72 427ci big block with smog equipment, proper platings and markings, and so much more.

This impressive Camaro is the product of a 10-year restoration completed in 2017 with fewer than 200 miles since.  This was truly a nut-and-bolt effort with every part having been reconditioned or replaced.  The project started with a solid Frost Green donor car originally from Florida.  It was completely disassembled, after which the body / panels / subframe were acid dipped to completely remove all the old paint, surface rust, grease, and grime accumulated over decades of use.  It was then E-coated to ensure a continuous protective covering on all surfaces including those you could not normally reach through conventional spraying.  Other parts were powder coated including the control arms and rear end.  The Hugger Orange paint was professionally applied and really makes this car pop.  A rear spoiler was added along with a reproduction body tag with matching codes (the original is included).  The steel wheels wear Goodyear F70-14 bias ply tires.

The engine was replaced with a proper 427ci 425hp L72 big block.  This is a genuine 3963512 casting with square port small chamber heads, a Winters aluminum intake manifold, and a Holley 4346 carburetor.  It even has a complete AIR system with the correct exhaust manifolds.  How often do you see that?  Note the compression ratio was lowered from 11:1 to 10.5:1 and a hydraulic roller camshaft installed.  It sounds fantastic even through the restrictive 2” factory style exhaust.  The correct air cleaner is present along with a working cowl air door.  Other nice details include an anti-dieseling solenoid, larger alternator pulley, and correct curved outlet radiator.

The transmission is a CX-tagged TH400 automatic.  Note this setup is rarer than a 4-speed manual version.  The rear end is a correct BE-code 4.10 12-bolt with Positraction.  It was rebuilt with C-clip eliminators for improved safety.  The car also has power steering and power front disc brakes.  Be sure to look at all the underside pictures in the gallery; this car looks better underneath than most cars do on top.  Everything is remarkably clean and correct right down to the factory stickers and inspection marks.

The original interior was gutted and completely redone in black.  Open the door and it’s like getting in a new car; seats, carpet, door panels, headliner, dash, and more.  The bucket seats flank a center console with horseshoe shifter and full gauges.  The lights, turn signals, horn, wipers, radio, and parking brake all function properly.  Note the front seat belt shoulder straps are also present.  There is also a working in-dash tachometer and a clock that keeps good time.  The trunk compartment is spotless as well and includes the bumper jack.

While the pictures here obviously show a beautiful COPO Camaro replica, there are many fine details that further distinguish this car from so many others.  The hood hinges, latch, and striker all have the correct phosphate coating.  The insulation pad uses the original style plastic fasteners.  The wheels show the body color on the outside only while the spare is all black.  It is all reflective of a quality build and makes for a fantastic representation of a legendary Camaro.
