Vehicle Description
1956 Chevrolet 210 2-Door Sedan
The "Hot One" got even hotter. Overall styling was subtly revised
with a sharper looking grille and more polished stainless trim
decorating the sides of the car. The restyled grille and integrated
parking lamps resulted in Cadillac-like good looks. The 262ci
Turbo-Fire V8 was rated at 170 hp, (when equipped with the
automatic transmission, 162 hp when equipped with a manual), and
the optional 4-barrel Turbo-Fire V8 with dual exhausts was rated at
205 horsepower. Even the Blue Flame 235 cubic-inch six-cylinder was
beefed up, now boasting 140 hp. The three familiar series- Bel Air,
Two-Ten and One-Fifty, were now offered in 19 models. One was a new
body style this year- the four-door hardtop. It was called the
Sport Sedan and was advertised as "Embodying the youthfulness of a
convertible, the practicality of a hardtop and the convenience of a
sedan". Customers at the time were demanding bigger, brighter cars
with more power and performance, and they got it with the new '56
Chevrolet. General Motors knew that if a car was to sell well it
had to look new, even if it wasn't entirely. Though 1956 was a
transition year, the model did bring about a number of firsts. -Thx

For consignment, the middle of the road 210 trimmedsedan for 1956.
A beneficiary of a 7 year long restoration from 2005-2012, this car
is complete with a rebuilt 6-cylinder engine, India Ivory and Dusk
Plum two tone paint, trim spears, and plenty of big chrome. Some
wide white sidewalls, snappy pointed center chromed hubcaps, and
two tone 50's styled interior, how can you go wrong smack dab in
the middle year of the Tri Five craze.
Exterior
India Ivory covers the upper roof and rear of this car. It is
delineated by a trim spear where we see Dusk Plum below. Overall
the panels are straight ,and the gaps are good. A few bubbles and
inclusions show up mostly on the lower parts of the car, but
overall the presentation is very nice. The chrome bumpers are good,
and the trim is shiny with no dimpling as is the Chevrolet script
in your grandmother's handwriting. 15-inch Dusk Plum steel wheels
with bowtie emblazoned dog dish slightly pointed center style caps
are wrapped in thin whites and are seen on all 4 corners. A shout
to the rear brake lights with their Buck Rogers styling within ever
so slightly finned rear quarter corners. From the front hood
ornament of the streaking jet, single headlight on either side with
a chromed visor above and lots-o-chrome below with the egg crate
silver grille and lower bumper with extra chrome vertical bump bars
we are in true 1950's heaven. We note a crack in the driver's rear
side window and a matching crack in the passenger's front side
glass. Let's go to the drive-in and turn some heads on nostalgia
night. A shout out to the curved glass in front and back, which
wraps around the front and the rear of the passengers compartment,
which we are waiting with eager anticipation to enter and read
about...here we go!
Interior
Looking like the original but very nicely preserved with only a few
smudges from age and use, the door panels that sport what appear to
be original white smooth vinyl uppers and clean gray clothlowers
with a wing-like pattern holding the black vinyl armrests and
window crank background. Looking toward the front bench, anifty
fifties design with textured dark gray and charcoal broadcloth
inserts for the seats and some nice white piping separating the
smooth white colored vinyl bolsters. The rear bench emulates this
snazzy pattern and is looking showroom. All appear to have been
recently recovered and painstakingly matched to the original style
and patterns and has seen little action since. Clean black carpet
covers the floors throughout. Hanging above is the dual curved
eyebrow shaped dash front which has a black metal dash top, and
wonderful white middle with painted black metal below. Bezels and
knobs are pristine and in the middle we see a radio delete insert.
In front of the passenger is another fan in the dash with Chevrolet
written in your grandmother's handwriting and a routine chrome
bezel in its lower V. Above is a tight white and perfectly alright
headliner with its working chrome bezel dome lamp.
Drivetrain
A raise of the hood, and a clean and rebuilt blue blocked 235ci
inline 6 cylinders is mounted. It has a single barrel carburetor on
top and a gone through 3-speedmanual transmission is on back. This
combination is throwing power back to the original rear axle with a
3.70 ratio. A large oil bath air cleaner is on the driver's side of
the engine, and all else is nicely painted black bolt ones and.
Supple clean wiring and hoses abound.
Undercarriage
A mix of black paintedsteel, some patina and surface rust cover the
unmolested underside. The floor pans, body hangers and toe kicks
are rust free and have a nice black patina of worn off
rustproofing. Only a few small drips are noted on the bottom of the
engine and drum brakes are on all 4 corners. Independent coil
springs are upfront and provide a smooth ride, and leaf springs are
reserved for the rear.
Drive-Ability
The car runs smooth and quiet, accelerates nicely and shifts
smoothly. It has a nice cruising altitude if you will, and an
overall comfortable seating and ride. A very impressive fun and
event free test drive from this classic.
This classic car has undergone an in depth restoration and remains
mostly original, with some of the exterior showing a few encounters
with whatever might have come its way over time. Wonderful chrome
and two tone paint and a beautiful 50's interior are all in this
car. A solid power plant, a nicely presenting example of the mid
Tri Five era on the middle of the road trim in the form of a 210.
All the while, the dual fan dash is to die for, as are the two tone
styling in the upholstery. Let's hit the drive-in and enjoy a
rootbeer float and some fries.
