Intro
The 1989 E30 convertible M3 is rare because BMW did not offer it to the U.S. market. BMW built more than 17,000 E30 M3 Coupes and only 786 units of the BMW M3 E30 Convertible. The seller purchased this M3 convertible in England from the second owner in July 2010 with approximately 51,400 miles and shipped it to Halifax, Canada on August 10, 2010. This M3 remained stored in Canada until August 2014 when the seller could import it into the USA without completing any modifications. The current mileage on this rare and highly sought after collectible is 53,060. It has a clear title and is in Virginia.
Exterior
This 1989 M3 convertible is finished in Misanorot (Red) with a black convertible soft top. The seller states the exterior paint is in amazing condition with no significant flaws or blemishes. It has new BMW 16” Nogarosilber Sport Evolution Wheels wrapped in Roadstone 225/45/ZR16 radial tires new in August 2022. The second owner installed a Scorpion stainless steel performance exhaust.
Interior
The M3 black interior includes the optional leather upholstery that includes the door, side panels and center tunnel upholstered with fine Walk Nappa leather. The interior appointments are well-preserved, with clean carpets, a crack-free dash and a Grundig CD and tape audio system.
Mechanicals
Like the E30 M3 Coupe, the Convertible is powered by a 2.3-liter naturally aspirated inline-four-cylinder engine (159 kW/215 hp) that drives the rear wheels through a five-speed dog-leg manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. This M3 is current on all maintenance and completed a service in May 2023 consisting of:
Brake Fluid Flush
Transmission Fluid Changed
Differential Fluid Changed
Replaced fan belt, PS belt, and A/C belt
Summary
This is the first convertible from BMW M, and it has taken its place in history as a significant and rare car to own. This is an opportunity for the discriminant collector to finally acquire an e30 M3 convertible that until now was only available in Europe.
