Vehicle Description
Per Title Exceeds Mechanical Limits
Vehicle Displayed Here is a Typical Example of What Were the "Work
Horses" of the Majority of the Rescue Squads in Virginia and Around
the Country from the Mid 1960's to the Early 1970's
While Providing Slightly More Room and Comfort for Patient Car Than
the Vehicles They Replaced Due to Advancements in Pre-Hospital
Emergency Car and Looming New Federal Standards, Their Life Spans
Would be Short Lived and by the Mid 70's Most Would Be Gone
Vehicle Has Been an Ambulance Since 1969
Served Entire Life with Surry Rescue Squad and It's Last Years
Pulling the Boat for Water Rescue Duties
Current Owner is a Life Member of LVRS Who Was Active While These
Vehicles Were in Service
During This Period, The Squads Were Transitioning From the Previous
Station Wagons and Panel Trucks
While the Majority of These Units Were Still "Crew Converted" Using
the Talents of Squad Members to Go From a Base Vehicle to an
Ambulance
Most Were Still Primitive by Today's Standards
Many of These Advancements and New Standards Were the Result of TV
Programs Such as "Emergency" Which Brought Emerging Advancements
Into the Public Eye
Even Vehicles of this Vintage Would Survive Long Enough to See the
Beginning of Virginia's Expanding EMS Program
Later Sold at Auction and While a Restoration had Begun, It Sat
Outside in a Field for Some 6 Years Prior to Being Purchased by the
Current Owner
Restored and Equipped to Represent the Actual Lakeside Units, It is
Maintained and "Dedicated to Those that Volunteer" Everywhere
