1948 Mercury Woody formerly of the renowned Nick Alexander collection. Owned by the collection from 1996 until 2009 when he collection was sold by RM in Monterey. Largely original with a sympathetic restoration while owned by Nick.
Original wood was retained and restored by Alexander. 1948 Mercury Woodies are very rare, but this on is one of the very few "Birdseye" examples sporting many pieces of Birdseye maple. Henry Ford instructed his workers at the Iron Mountain plant set aside the prized pieces of Birdseye and Tiger Striped lumber to be used on "special Jobs," usually friends or important business associates. Most of the glass is original with factory date codes. The red leather seats are all original and show some age but are still soft and usable.
The engine, trans, and Columbia 2 speed rear end were rebuilt. All brakes and suspension were gone through as needed. The V8 was upgraded with a new radiator, electric fuel pump, and fenton headers with dual exhaust.
Drives wonderful and the 2 speed Columbia rear differential makes highway speeds attainable. Documented with receipts, a magazine feature, and notes during ownership. 70,000 miles believed to be original. If you are looking for the best look no further.
