Vehicle Description
This 1958 Ford Custom 300 may look like a cruiser, but it also has
some added fun with its V8 to give you a touch of an old-school
street machine. So it's vintage cool with a bit of a Saturday night
blacktop twist.
The '58 Ford is an ideal car to give a touch of sleeper fun. It
already had a muscle car kind of style straight from the factory
with the hood scoop, outstretched tail lights, and the wide and
intimidating front end. But none of that gives away the power
within because it's just part of the classic style. In fact, this
car is finished in its factory-correct Azure Blue. It has a quality
style with just the right amount of aging to fit the overall
driver's car theme. There are nice details in the shining
brightwork, including how the bumper/grille combo is the main focus
of the front end, and the rear is notched to fit the license plate.
Plus, full-length trim, classic hubcaps, and dual hood ornaments
are all part of a nice presentation. But there's also a rumble
coming from this one that signals it's more than just vintage.
The interior continues the well-restored and vintage feeling. It's
a correct classic silver with silver/gray fabric. You can always
add plenty of frills through the aftermarket if you really want,
but we like how this one likes to show off an authentic style right
now. You have the classic thin/grippy three-spoke steering wheel,
sweeping speedo, and a clean dash that reminds you even a radio was
an extravagance that was not in every family car. And besides, it's
the exhaust note that's your real soundtrack.
Under the hood is a clean and classic engine bay with Ford's FE V8
at its heart. These were quite potent powerhouses for their day,
and this is believed to be the large 390 cubic-inch displacement.
Topped with a Holley four-barrel carburetor, there was some serious
blue oval power potential in these. And the exhaust was upgraded to
a dual setup with Smithys glasspacks for a terrific V8 tune.
There's even a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission to
give you proper control and plenty of old-school fun. Right now,
it's set up to be a nice classic cruiser with an irresistible
rumble, which is likely what you already want. But don't forget,
this is also the right foundation if you want to tune it to be a
full-on sleeper.
