For Sale: 1964 Bristol 408 Mark II in Dietramszell, Bavaria

Vehicle Description

Bristol Model 408 Mark II, year built: June 2, 1964. Leather interior. Identnummer 4087006. V8 cylinder, Chrysler engine. 5130 ccm / 186 kW, 250 PS, odometer 711 miles, 4 stroke engine, three gear automatic, rear wheel drive. Right hand drive. Bristol cars have only been sold in UK, some in Australia and South Africa, only produced in very low series. This model was handcrafted in a quantity of only about 80 pieces.

The story:

What does an aircraft manufacturer that supplied the Royal Air Force with its Blenheim and Beaufighter combat aircraft during World War II do after it lost its business base after 1945? He uses his knowledge and builds high-quality automobiles in small numbers, as he did with airplanes, largely by hand. Vehicles that meet the demands of a Royal Air Force pilot, an officer and gentleman of the English upper class. If then the company is run by a former Royal Airforce pilot, also from the British upper class, who is convinced that a real gentleman cannot be a salesman and that what he offers is so convincing for his target group in everything that there is no need for distribution efforts -  then the result is a handmade Bristol. Consequently, the Bristol could only be purchased from a single store in London, with that location serving more as a place to take orders.

We have the honor of being able to publicly auction a Bristol Model 408 Mark II built in 1964 on June 30th, 2023. The DNA of aircraft construction is immediately recognizable in this vehicle being auctioned here. The bodywork, exceptional for the time, was handcrafted from aluminum and still has the original paint. A large-volume 8-cylinder Chrysler engine with 186 kw provides sufficient power and smooth running for pilots. The 3-speed automatic transmission enables comfortable travel. The interior made of high-quality leather turns this vehicle into a rolling manor. The number of units produced for this vehicle was small and ensures that the classic car aficionado in the circle of vintage car owners deserves the attention they deserve. Despite the low starting price here, owning this automotive icon is a task. You acquire a vehicle whose development is based on a special philosophy. Expression of a bygone lifestyle combined with taking responsibility for the preservation of this precious object in order to preserve this object from a bygone era and then pass it on to future generations. You don't actually own a car like that. One enjoys the joy that it accompanies a part of your life.

The brand is still alive: For example, Richard Branson and Liam Gallagher (band Oasis) own a Bristol car.
