Vehicle Description
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1964 Volkswagen Beetle
Cabriolet, a nice driver out of single-family ownership for nearly
four decades. Finished in Pearl White with a black top and red
interior, this is a remarkably honest and original example with
fewer than 40,000 believed original miles.
The present owner's late father acquired this car in 1986 from
Little Motors in Albany, New York. An odometer disclosure statement
from the selling dealer in 1986 claimed 33,544 actual miles (the
car was previously owned by an elderly couple who lived in downtown
Albany who drove it sparingly). The present indicated mileage,
39,765, is believed to be the actual original mileage (the low
mileage accumulated under present ownership is well documented in
the records).
A new black vinyl convertible top was installed in 1996 at 36,819
miles and still looks brand new. Records indicate the car got new
carpet at the same time. The car was repainted to a nice standard
in the original color prior to 1986. Floors are in good condition
but there is some minor rust in the channels, as seen in the
underside photos. Bumpers, hubcaps and trim are in good original
condition, with light patina. Seats and door panels are original.
Dash remains in original paint and is pristine original condition;
original speedometer is clear and working.
The 1200 cc flat four starts easily and runs great; despite the low
mileage, this car has been started and driven at least once a month
and has never sat for an extended period. Recent service within the
last 1,000 miles includes a battery, oil change and tune-up with
Pertronix electronic ignition and new distributor (original
distributor with points and condenser are included with the sale),
valve adjustment, rear brake cylinders and hoses, front end rebuild
with new king pins, upper and lower steering knuckle cross pins and
tie rods. The front brakes were rebuilt in 1990 at 35,352 miles.
Horn, lights, turn signals, wipers, etc. are all working as they
should.
Spare, jack, tools, original owner's manual, complete service
records since 1986 and a photo of it sitting on the dealer's lot in
1986 are included with the sale. We've driven it nearly 50 miles in
the course of picking it up from our client's house south of
Savannah - it's a charming car that runs and drives nicely. Out of
nearly 1 million Beetles produced in 1964, only around 10,000 were
convertibles (and far fewer have survived). For more information
