Vehicle Description
This 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS Convertible is a True Super Sport
Convertible with seemingly all of the most desirable options
including factory A/C! 1964 marked the the very first time that
Impala Super Sport became its own sub-series (as opposed to an
option package). Of course, the SS was the plushest and sportiest
passenger car in Chevrolet's lineup at the time. The Super Sport
interiors featured leather grained vinyl with front bucket seats, a
center console with console-mounted shifter, and distinctive SS
trim throughout. The Super Sport exteriors were also known for
their extra pizazz, trimmed with special SS full wheelcovers, a
silver "swirl-pattern" anodized inserts on the decklid, along with
various Super Sport specific trim on the quarters and decklid.
While the basic SS Impalas were priced with the basic Inline 6
Cylinder engines, Chevy offered an array of larger, more powerful
V8s including the iconic 409 which was of course the title of the
famous Beach Boys track off their "Surfin' Safari" album.
Interestingly, the '64 Impala continued its prominence in pop
culture well beyond the hot rod era of the 60s and 70s with many
famous rappers in the 90s and beyond, including including Snoop
Dogg and Dr. Dre, rapping about "rollin' in [their] 6-4s" in
reference to the iconic lowriding 1964 Impalas. Of all of the 1.5
million cars produced by Chevy in 1964, the Impala Convertible was
the rarest with only 81,897 produced with even fewer being the SS
Convertible. This particular '64 Impala SS comes to us from a
southern collector who owned this car as a part of his personal
collection. Under the hood on this 1964 Super Sport Impala
Convertible is a 409 Cubic Inch V8 engine paired with a single 4
barrel carburetor that pushed out 340 horsepower in its day. The
409 V8 is mated to a Powerglide Automatic Transmission that makes
this convertible enjoyable for anybody to drive. This '64 Impala SS
has a nice throaty sound out the rear thanks to the dual exhaust
setup. Being that this Impala was Chevrolet's premium model in its
day, it comes loaded with options! With power brakes, bringing this
409 powered Impala to a stop is a breeze. Power steering is also a
wonderful option on this Super Sport since it makes getting in and
out of tight parking spaces much easier. You'll be able to stay
cool while cruising even on the hottest summer days since since
this '64 Impala SS features factory air conditioning, which cost an
extra $300+ back in 1964. The black vinyl power convertible top on
this SS Impala is in fantastic shape and it goes up and down with
ease with the simple flick of a switch. This 64 Impala rides on a
set of whitewall radial tires paired with full SS wheelcovers which
gives this convertible a fantastic look and even better ride. This
Impala Convertible's exterior has been beautifully refinished in
its original color, Goldwood Yellow, completing the gorgeous
exterior look of the car. The interior on this Impala SS 409
Convertible is absolutely stunning! The front bucket seats and rear
bench seat have been reupholstered in leather grained Black Vinyl,
just how this car was ordered back in 1964. The padded dash, center
console, door panels, and steering wheel all look great and appear
to be in their stock configuration. The dash is equipped with a 120
MPH Speedometer, fuel gauge, clock and upgraded retro-style AM/FM
radio. Whether you're looking for your very first classic car or
you're looking to add to existing collection, this 1964 Chevrolet
Impala SS Convertible would make an excellent choice. Give
