Vehicle Description
1967 Chevrolet Nova Hardtop
The 1960's Chevy II/Nova was one of Chevrolet's best-selling models
and was sold as a compact car. It didn't take General Motors long
to realize they could put some of their bigger engines in these
cars and people would buy them for performance as well. Hence a
Nova ad that states, "The Sleeper Awakes."
Dignifying our showroom space here at Classic Auto Mall is this
Nova stunner. I say this because one look at the build and sleek
racy lines on this car and you will not be able to restrain
yourself from being impressed. Maintaining the original old school
hotrod look, a monster supercharged small block V8, state of the
art electronics, custom exhaust, afull on racing style interior you
can soak in with your eyes all work together to bring you this
stunner. A certainly assured job well done, definitely a show car,
however you do not need to be afraid of taking it out on the
weekends and blow out some of the carbon buildup as dad used to
say!
Exterior
Gosh where do I start...I could just say it's all great, and be
scary as to my accuracy, but I digress...a shiny chrome egg crate
grille with single LED converted headlights flanking either side,
all surrounded by beautiful trim work, and held up by a clean
bumper with no faults in the body matching charcoal finish and a
chin spoiler below. A pinned and cut out hood allows the
supercharger and dual carbs to shine brightly giving the whole
world a view of what you're packing makes its way back to near
flawless tinted glass surrounded by nicely polished trim. Clean
steel panels make up the slabbed sides, but they align very well
and are spattered with polished handles, mirrors, but to give a
more sleek look all badging has been removed save for Super Sport
on the rear quarter panels in your grandmother's script. Bringing
up the rear is a straight as an arrow trunk lid, and chrome trimmed
tail lights, with another body matching bumper below. Overall the
paint is well applied and is the deep end of the pool that was
buffed and waxed to perfection. This finish, while very nice, is
not without a few inclusions, dimples and signs of prior body work.
Weld Racing wheels are on in 17" and 15" format and are shod in
185/55R17 and monstrous 29x18.0x15LT Mickey Thompson rubber in
rear. Just beautiful
Interior
All newly upholstered leather seats, new carpet, upgraded
instruments, and a new steering wheel all dressed in black vinyl
with white stitching...oh and add a vertical stripe on the doors to
be even more matchey and cool! Between the stylish and heavily
bolstered low back buckets is a TCI Outlaw shifter mounted in a
black vinyl wrapped custom console with stainless cupholders and
well within the driver's reach. The factory gauges are long gone
and now a bevy of black face AutoMeter gauges peer back at the
driver through a thick black leather wrapped Grant rally style
steering wheel with a mixture of brushed aluminum and chrome in the
spokes. A black leather wrapped dash topper hovers above and down
below are a variety of knobs, pulls, and toggles under the
instrumentcluster. Even with the Pro-Street build motif there is a
small black leather seat/storage bench in the back, although
climbing back there is best accomplished by someone far more
flexible than myself thanks to the black steel roll cage. This cage
is a 6 point style and grows gracefully from the the earlier
mentioned new black carpeting flooding the floors and is framed
above by a black vinyl headliner with just nary a touch of
wrinkling. A shout out to the trunk with its relocated Optima
battery, stainless steel fuel cell and high performance Aeromotive
fuel pump. All first class.
Drivetrain
408 cubes in the form of a tire shredding small block V8 are
happily mounted in a pristine engine compartment home. This mill
has been built to the hilt with a Dart block, aluminum cylinder
heads and thanks in part to the BDS Airloc II supercharger from Big
Al's Toybox and dual QuickFuel carbs makes a consignor stated
807hp. A TH400 3-speed automatic transmission is bolted to the back
and holds a reverse manual valve body, trans brake and a FB
Transmissions 9" 3,800-4,000 stall torque converter. Power flows
back to a Ford 9" axle that has been narrowed to accommodatethe
huge rear tires. Total visual eye candy under the hood, even down
to the billet pulleys, power steering, Wilwood master cylinder and
the added structural front support bars with the shock towers
removed.
Undercarriage
Overall very clean with light surface rust on the usual suspects
including the gigantic rear wheel tubs. Starting at the rear we see
a custom ladder bar rear suspension with adjustable coil overs and
Wilwood rear disc brakes. Moving forward we see welded in subframe
connectors with extra chassis bracing and stainless steel braided
fuel lines. Up front is a Mustang II style front suspension with
more Wilwood disc brakes. Custom built headers snake down from the
engine and dual Borla stainless steel mufflers attempt to quiet the
roar of the engine before turning outward and ending with dual
polished tips in front of each rear wheel. Amen!
Drive-Ability
My crack decoder was chaffing in his shorts to get behind the wheel
of this Pro-Streeter so I let him take the wheel while I rode
shotgun. From the passenger's seat I experienced blazingly fast
acceleration, wonderful bias free braking and unexpectedly good
handling. All functions were working during our drive save for the
wipers that are not connected to anything, nor do they have a
switch to actuate them. Upon arrival back to our Hallowed Halls I
had to send oursteadfast janitor to the local Walmart to grab me a
fresh pair of tighty whities as mine had taken on a brown hue.
This car is a real highlighter here, and rightfully so. All the
attention to detail, restified and retaining the factory lines
while holding within a gaggle of custom upgrades and all the while
running like a clock. This will be the toughest Bowtie on your
block. Deport your import and snap this one up, it won't be here
long.
