Finished in a period-correct, special order color Royal Blue (6012)
with a black leatherette interior, this 356B Super 90 Coupe
represents what was then the highest horsepower model of the
Porsche pushrod street platform. Producing 90 HP, the Super 90
iteration performed nearly as well as the more complex 4-cam
Carrera it was intended to replace for street use.
A full cosmetic restoration included paint, re-chromed brightwork,
new aluminum trim, rubber seals, and a complete new German interior
to very high standards. The non-metallic, medium blue exterior is
complemented by chrome Super hubcaps with Porsche crests, painted
silver steel rims mounted to Vredestein Sprint Classic 165 HR 15
tires, the dual exhaust exiting through the rear chrome
bumperettes, horn grills above and below the front bumper, a chrome
driver side mirror, gold Porsche and Super 90 script. A black
leatherette interior features a black VDM steering wheel, detailed
VDO gauges including a dash-mounted clock, map lights above both
doors, and chrome trim. Two-point lap belts with black floor mats
provide finishing touches.
Mechanically this is an amazing 356 to drive with the 1.6-liter
Super 90 flat-four, air-cooled engine - Type 616/7 which produces
90 HP at 5500 RPM, and 89 lb.ft. of torque at 4300 RPM. Power to
the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual Type 741 transmission with
a four-wheel drum braking system. Its top speed is 110+ MPH. The
motor, transmission, suspension and braking system have all been
rebuilt and perform flawlessly. The undercarriage has been stripped
to steel and is fully detailed including the suspension. Recently
serviced with fresh oil, oil filter, fuel filter, adjusted the
carburetors, and tuned the engine. Truly a pleasure to drive with
plenty of power, smooth shifting transmission and a rebuilt braking
system!
