the Chevrolet Corvette? Well, actually, there is, if that said
Corvette is painted Monza Red and has a Big Block with a 4-speed!
Here at Garage Kept Motors, we are excited to offer one the most
muscular of the C3 Corvettes offered, the 1970 LS5 V8 with 390 hp
equipped. This Vette has only been owned by two families and comes
well-documented with original dealer invoices and sales documents.
This 1970 Chevrolet Corvette was restored in 2011 and the paint was
professionally applied over well-executed bodywork and polished to
a high gloss. The paint has since been well maintained and has only
acquired a few small chips and blemishes that are difficult to see.
The bumper chrome has some light patina but still shines with a
rich brilliance. Likewise, the remaining trim and stainless
moldings are in good shape only requiring some light
buffing/restoration. Inside the cockpit of this road rocket, the
black interior has been cosmetically restored with new seat
upholstery, carpet, and new floor mats embossed with the Corvette
emblem. The interior of these C3 Corvettes are very reminiscent of
early spacecraft which may explain why the Apollo program
astronauts at NASA were so drawn to them. This vehicle features
full instrumentation to monitor the engine vitals, plus a dash
clock and fiber optic exterior light monitors. A Custom AutoSound
Radio AM/FM with Aux input for your iPod or phone input replaces
the factory unit. Under the hood sits the correct, numbers-matching
drivetrain, an LS5 454cid V8 Big Block. Factory rated at 390 hp and
500 ft. lbs. of torque. The engine compartment presents well and
has been well maintained with a recent tune-up. The original
starter has been upgraded to a high-torque mini-starter unit. A
free-flowing HP exhaust featuring stainless shorty headers that
flow into 2.5 exhaust pipes into performance turbo-style mufflers
gives the motor a nice throaty sound. Power is transferred through
a Muncie 4-speed to the independent suspension rear end with a
limited-slip differential. Underneath you can see the suspension
and steering were completely rebuilt during the restoration
process. Braking is provided by 4-wheel power disc brakes and
manual steering. Overall, the underbody is clean with no
indications of any rust damage in the frame. There really is
nothing like running through the gears of a Big American V8 with a
manual transmission. This Corvette is torquey as you row through
the gears and pulls hard under acceleration, providing
smile-inducing acceleration that is fun for both the driver and the
passenger. With the T-tops off, the sun on your face, and the wind
in your hair, you will find yourself always taking the long way
home when driving this magnificent machine. Please call if
interested or e-mail with specific questions. Thanks for looking.
