this car.
Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this beautiful numbers
matching 1968 Corvette Convertible in fantastic condition with the
high performance L79 327ci/350hp engine, 4-speed manual
transmission, and only 68,905 original miles. This Corvette looks
spectacular, runs great, and is an excellent driver; overall the
car is exceptionally clean. It is finished in the beautiful color
combination of Safari Yellow (984) over Black Vinyl (STD) with a
black soft top. This is the correct and original color scheme as
verified by the codes on the trim tag, which is pictured in this
ad.
We have driven this car over 20 miles recently. During that time
that car was completely reliable, has no issues, and was a true
pleasure to drive.
The car comes with a three-inch thick binder filled with dozens and
dozens of records and receipts for maintenance and repairs over the
years that total over $6,000. There are also some old photographs
of the car from years ago. Also included with the car is the
owner's manual.
This Corvette is "Numbers Matching" meaning the engine in the car
now is the same correct and original unit that were installed at
the factory in St. Louis in 1968. The last six digits of the VIN,
408980, are stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured in this
ad, and the engine is original to the car.
We have this car priced to sell and are offering an excellent
opportunity to own a very desirable classic Corvette Convertible at
an unbeatable value. The high performance engines like this L79 and
convertible Corvettes draw a nice premium over the standard coupe
body style or the base motor cars. One could easily buy this car
now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come
as the market on C3 "chrome bumper" Corvettes from 1968 to 1972 is
absolutely red hot right now and on the rise. The low original
milage is verified not only by the condition of the car, but also
the clear Ohio title, pictured in this ad, that shows the mileage
as "Actual." Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of
numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of how
nice this Corvette really is.
As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle. We
hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come
from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give
the vehicle the same care and attention as they did. We invite and
encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car
inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture. We
photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel
confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the
Corvette, just give us a call.
Exterior
The Safari Yellow (984) exterior is in excellent condition. As one
can see in the photos the finish has dazzling gloss, smooth finish,
and deep shine. The chrome and brightwork looks wonderful overall
with a brilliant finish and no pitting. The original rally wheels
and center caps are in great condition with a nice finish and no
curb rash. The BF Goodrich raised white letter tires have plenty of
tread left and are correctly sized 225/70R15. The soft top is in
excellent condition with holes or frayed edges. The rear window is
clear and not scratched or yellowed. There are no major
imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the
photos. There is one small spot on the right front by the hood that
is barely visible in the photos, but nothing else that is really
noticeable from about five feet away. This Corvette has no rust
issues and as one can see in the many photos of the underside it is
very clean underneath. The frame is totally solid with no rust
around the "key hole" area in front of the rear tire and there are
no signs of corrosion around the windshield, which are the two most
notorious areas for rust on a Corvette of this era. We have
included specific photos of the areas most prone to rust to show
how solid this car is.
Interior
The Black (STD) interior of the Corvette is in fantastic condition.
The seats are in excellent shape with no rips, holes, or split
seams. The seat is not overly worn in the typical spot on the
bolster where the driver gets in and out. The gauge faces are clean
and crisp and the lenses are clear. The door panels are in superb
condition, there are no cracks in the typical spot where the
driver's elbow sits. Also, the door panels sit tight and flush to
the door unlike many other Corvettes from this ear. The carpet is
also in great condition with no rips, holes, or stains. This
includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. This Corvette
still has its original radio that gets good reception. Most
importantly, the dash has never been cut or modified for an
aftermarket installation. The dash is in nice shape with no cracks
or sun fading. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no
burn marks and no aroma of cigarettes.
Corvette interiors from this era are not known to wear well,
especially for a convertible, and the excellent condition of this
interior is a huge testament to the meticulous care and attention
this Corvette has received throughout its life.
Mechanical
This Corvette seems to be in excellent mechanical condition. As
stated above the car has over $6,000 in receipts so the car seems
to be very well sorted mechanically. Also, we have driven the car
over 20 miles recently with no problems at all. The original
numbers matching L79 high horsepower engine starts up right away
every time, runs well, and idles smooth. The car drives great and
feels nice on the road and at highway speeds. In the video one can
observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph,
shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going
through some curves. Please note that there are no strange noises
or vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. The brakes
are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The
transmission shifts great, the shifter is tight, and does not pop
out of gear or grind. The clutch feels good. Also, the engine
compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and correct as one can
see in the photos.
The wipers works as do the exterior lights, dash lights,
indicators, and blower for the heater on all speeds; even the "Seat
Belt" light on the dash works. All of the gauges work and even the
clock runs. Both manual vents open, close, and work properly, which
is a very common problem on early C3 Corvettes. The vacuum system
for the headlights and wiper door works properly. Please note that
the vacuum system works properly from both the respective switches
on the dash and the override switch under the steering column. The
operation of the headlights and wiper door by both switches can be
seen in the video. Most of the fiber optics work. As one can hear
in the video, this Corvette sounds absolutely awesome and has a
very healthy exhaust note. Not enough can be said as to how much of
a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the extra power
from the L79 engine and the top down on a beautiful day.
A note on the fiber optic light monitoring system, we consistently
receive many questions about the purpose of this system; exactly
what it is and what it does. The sole and main idea behind the
fiber optic light monitoring system is to simply confirm that all
of the exterior lights, headlights, indicators, tail lights, etc.,
are working and to make the driver aware of a burned out bulb. Each
