Vehicle Description
1996 Ford MustangGT Convertible
The new engine for the Mustang GT, an SOHC 4.6-liter V-8, invokes
technology that the obsolete 5.0 didn't have, yet it arrives at
almost identical output. The main reasons for changing the engines
were the tougher federal fuel-economy standards and onboard
diagnostic system, (OBD-II), requirements that both kick in for
1996. Ford knew the aged 5.0 liter was not going to make the cut
anymore. Most of the real improvements brought about by the modular
V8 power plant were aimed not at performance, but rather at
refinement. Noise, vibration, and harshness, (NVH), characteristics
are first addressed in the engine structure itself, with
lightweight pistons and connecting rods, a deep-skirt block, deep
head bolts, and five cross-bolted main bearings.
This 4 owner 1996 Mustang GT convertible is presented for
consignment and showing up in well preserved Rio Red. It's a
convertible GT version, has some upgrades on the performance front,
and a new inspection with brand new tires wrapping 17-inch Cobra
wheels. It has a clean CarFax, and has been garaged through the
current owners possession time. Also a mere 49,721 verified actual
miles do not hurt the quality of this car either.
Exterior
Bathed in Rio Red, this body presents nicely with well minded gaps
and very good paint. A few of the iconic Mustang design cues are
still present on this SN95 Mustang; the first is the hockey stick
cove which starts on the front of the rear quarter panel with a
faux air inlet duct and runs to the front of the doors and into the
front fender well. Second are the triple tail lights which now wrap
around to the rear of the quarters. This example has upgraded
headlights and parking lights all very clear. When the white canvas
top, which is pristine and very clean, is down, a dual piece
roadster tonneau cover in body matching Rio Red plastic with 2 bump
ups behind each seat can be put on. It takes away from the rear
seating, however looks just fab when on this car. An aerodynamic
rear spoiler sits atop of the trunk lid. 17-inch Cobra wheels are
seen and are wrapped in 245/45/ZR17's in front and rear. Dual
exhaust, some white MUSTANG GT badging on the rear bumper, those
roadster tonneau coverings, and from the rear view this car is
rockkin'.
Interior
A swing of the sporty door shows us some black sculpted uppers, a
wood applique swooping armrest window, lock, and mirror control
panel and a lower white vinyl door panel. These are very sporty and
seamlessly melt into the up and down undulating dash design when
the doors are closed. Another iconic design cue is this dual
swooped eyebrow dash which presents in black and white with white
faced gauges and some wood surround melts into a center console
with another rounded bottom curved line. On to the black carpet
which is covering all the floors and floating the beautiful high
back sculpted white leather power Katzkin leather seats. These
chairs sport some red accent piping and nifty red tuck and roll
inserts along with a galloping horse embroidering in the mid backs.
The rear 2 plus 2 bench uses the same materials and is like
new.
Drivetrain
A pop of the hood reveals a slightly aged but well kept 4.6L SOHC
V8 wedged between the shock towers. It has a Hyperchip performance
chip installed with a K&N cold air intake and march Pulleys.
EFI and a 4-speed 4R70W automatic transmission is on back. Spinning
the rear tires is a Ford 8.8 inch 3.08 TracLoc rear axle. All this
is very clean and nicely detailed.
Undercarriage
Seen underneath is a totally rust free and upgraded suspension
undercarriage. Now for your handling pleasure we have Eibach
lowering springs, AGX adjustable shocks and struts, Kenny Brown
subframe connectors, urethane front bushings and recently installed
rear control arms. The suspension style is independentcoil spring
in thefront and a 4 link with coil springs in the rear. Power disc
braking is on all 4 corners, with OEM dual exhaust. All very clean
under here.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, smooth runner, and averrrrrry nice handling
automobile. The Rio red paint is fantastic, and the curvaceous
white and red interior is beautiful. The 4.6 Liter V8 provides
adequate power, and handling is really superb. All functions were
work just swimmingly.
A Rio red horse riding across the desert, the white with red
accented leather interior blending into the sun-drenched scenery of
mesas and saguaro cacti. The engine runs very nicely, putting out
smooth power through the 4-speed automatic to the rear wheels. A
wild horse that you tame with your braking foot, and let run loose
with your right ostrich skin boot! Giddyup!
