For Sale: 1990 Mercedes-Benz GD250 in Lavergne, Tennessee
It's time to tame "The Wolf." This is a rare opportunity to own a
distinct SUV that was never officially in the USA. This 1990
Mercedes-Benz 250GD was born with military-grade toughness as a
robust turbo diesel 4x4. But when it made its way to the USA, it
was custom outfitted with a leather interior, air conditioning,
Bluetooth, heated seats, and much more. The result is one vehicle
that really shows you why the G-Wagon earned its robust reputation
while also giving you the true luxury you want from a Mercedes.
This one has a very cool style that will get recognized on and
off-road. After all, Mercedes has officially offered the G-Wagon in
the USA for a few years now, but the more fun open-top version has
always been off the menu. So it has more in common with the grey
market imports outlaws that were only available to a select few in
the 1980s. In fact, the history of this one is even more
interesting. We're told it was an ex-military vehicle, and its time
in the service is where these earned their "Wolf" nickname. It was
brought to the USA by Expedition Motor Company and given a nearly
2000-hour bare-metal frame-off restoration. So today, it strikes a
similar balance to a commanding officer who went into the private
sector to become a CEO. The full rebuild included the best off-road
piece, like a big bull bar front bumper, an integrated winch,
snorkel air intake, light rock guards, a rear jerry can carrier,
and a fully upgraded wheel and tire package - including the
rear-mounted spare. It is quite a rugged machine, but the way the
panels look in the beautiful Mojave Silver - and less than 1400
miles on the restoration - this is almost too pretty to get dirty.
But it's nice to know the trail boss is ready when you are.
The interior takes the ruggedness you love and then adds a ton of
custom luxury. After all, when this was pulling military duty, it
was a bare-bone utility machine. You can still feel that robustness
in the design, but Expedition now wraps it all in new and supple
leather. In fact, not only are there well-bolstered front bucket
seats but the rear gets individual comfort, too. There are the
right comforts, like cup holders, hand-crafted wood panels, and an
infotainment touchscreen that stereo that includes Bluetooth. It's
a detail-oriented restoration, right down to the newer window seals
and gaskets. And what really makes this classic G-Wagon distinct is
its open-top style. And because this has been upgraded to be
luxurious, you even have heated front seats and cold-blowing air
conditioning to dial in the ideal temperature. And on those days
when you need to be enclosed, the new soft top fits snugly against
the body.
One of the big reasons we love a good European off-roader is that
they give us proper diesel power, and Expedition turned that appeal
up a notch. They took the 2.5-liter diesel that came in this 250GD
and gave it a full inspection and cleaning. This included
refinishing the engine block, new bolts, new gaskets, new
crankshaft seals, and a full proper reassembly. During the process,
they also added a Garrett turbocharger to make sure it was
maximizing the power. The five-speed manual transmission is a
smooth shifter that gives you full control over the diesel power -
including a low crawler gear. Plus, the high ground clearance, BF
Goodrich KO2 tires, individually locking differentials, and beefy
manual transfer case assure that you can keep going well after the
pavement ends. But there's more to this restored Wolf. The power
steering, power brakes, and front discs remind you that go-anywhere
also means having some everyday-easy appeal.
The sale comes complete with the Expedition Motor Company reference
manual, and they also kept a comprehensive restoration photo file.
If you love to be distinct, capable, and truly comfortable, you
need this Wolf in your life. Call today!!!
